I have created a minecraft server using the standard kit Mojang has provided, and it works nice and great, but I was wondering how I could customize it (ex. welcome text when you enter the server, or regular server announcements)

PS. Did I post this in the correct subforum?

I think we have found a lost man who has accidentally wandered into linustechtips.com thinking it was a Minecraft Forum. Go post this at minecraftforum.net.

I know, I tried it there but no one answered. I know this forum answeres very quickly, and the members are very experienced and actually know what they are talking about (I speak from experience.)

This would be done through using Spigot or Bukkit. Those are modded versions of the minecraft server jar that allow plugins for functions like what you are talking about. Since that is an entire realm, the best thing you could do would be to go on youtube and watch a whole bunch of tutorials. Being curious is the best way to learn.

My native language is C++

Bukkit was my favorite but I believe that project has been renamed now.

The easiest way to run a Minecraft server? Install McMyAdmin which will give you a fancy control panel - and allow you to install various versions of Minecraft (including the original, and modded) and their associated mods https://www.mcmyadmin.com/

I think the latest craze these days is Sponge. You can also edit the server config files to edit some of the more basic settings.

Some plugins I think is good to get started (if they still exist) is essentials and PermissionsX. Gives you a way to create mods/admins and whatnot. Only matters if you want to go "public" with your server. If it's just for friends then no worries.

@I_IHaveNoLife_l - Just because you do not want to answer his question doesn't mean there are those of us willing to share knowledge. Not looking for an argument or to derail this thread, but to keep this forum more friendly.. maybe keep those thoughts to yourself vs pushing people away. I won't reply to any retort, just making a statement.
