So.. I've been building this super budget build.  Goal?  Get everything, peripherals, OS, the computer, less than 250!

Here's the final build!  (I'll pull an extra mouse that I have and use it for this).  But I'm going to sell it once I get an overclock on that GPU.

I'm going to get the OS off of like Kinguin or something.  But here we go, so far.  I do currently have most of the parts in my possession at the moment, and over the weekend, I will have to do a small amount of case modding.  I'm typing this up while waiting for my next class to start, so I won't be able to take pictures until I'm back at the dorm.  I was able to save on several things buying used or on clearance at work.  The monitor, for example, has built in speakers, negating me to have to buy speakers for this computer.  But, it was only $30 because it didn't come with a stand.

The case, while it is a Micro-ATX mid tower, it has one of those IO shields built into the case, over the weekend, I'm borrowing my boss's dremel tool to get that out.  I had to order a side panel because the case, I pulled from the dumpster, as a result, it has no side panel.

I'll be taking pictures as things come together.

wow getting an I5 of any kind for less then $40 is freaking impossible here, got scamed last time i found a deal like that, was told it was a broken motherboard and an I5 in it(nothing more then that on the CPU) and some other stuff for $35, turned out to be an I3 530 in the motherbord -_- still better then the Q6600 its going to replace tho seeing as im having problems with the LAN PC and stuff

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Yes sir.  Though I wouldn't fault the Q6600 though.  It's still quite a capable CPU today.

Okay, that's kind of weird.  Good luck with the awesome build though.  Hope the i3 gives you less trouble.

Okay, update time, I got the photos!  I'll put up spoiler tags as there are quite a few photos!

Here's the motherboard.  I got a good deal for it with an old Pentium that I plan to turn into a keychain:

CPU cooler.  I know, it's 'teh stockzz intellzzzzzz!"  It'll work for now, plus (while the CPU itself didn't come with a cooler) my job had a box of stock heatsinks they were going to throw out, so they gave me one.  Just need some thermal paste for it:

As you can see, it's coming along nicely.  I have the SSD in my old MacBook Pro at home, I'm going to pull  it out and put it in here.  The GPU and side panel are on the way, so I got to wait until those are delivered.  I do have the 19 inch monitor that's in the parts list.  (which I need to update by the way) It's just at work.  So once I'm done, I'll grab it from work to use with this.  All in all, it's coming along quite nicely.  Can't wait until it's done.

Is Kinguin a legal way of getting the OS?

I believe it is, but I'm not 100% sure.  I've used it a couple of times, and I know Paul's Hardware did a video on it where he bought a copy.  I know you get a legit copy of Windows though.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I got the GPU and side panel today.  The HD 7770 is going to need some cleaning.

So here it is disassembled.  Pretty dusty, and some new thermal paste might help.

GPU got cleaned and I put it in the PC.  .

And of course, fans spin up!

The computer POSTs!

Here is the PC.  Now I just need to install Windows and drivers, which I'm currently doing.
