Need Help, No Experience

Go to solution Solved by HKZeroFive,

Okay, so for the whole build including peripherals, your budget is $4500 AUD? Got it.

A hexacore CPU for those multithreaded applications, paired with fast RAM for CPU intensive tasks and games. For storage, I have paired the classic 850 EVO with a WD Black that has a 5 year warranty to back up its reputation of being a fast and reliable drive. A GTX 1080 for its horsepower, all packed in the Define S which is easy to build in and unbeatable for its price. This is all powered by the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 which is a top notch PSU (the 650W model was practically the same price so why not 750W?).

As for peripherals, I don't believe there's a ultrawide that has a 144Hz refresh rate unfortunately. You could instead opt for a 27" 1440p IPS monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate and G-Sync.

Anyway, have a look and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hello LTT community!

Need help building my first desktop :D

What I would be using the desktop for?

Gaming (Would like to play latest games on MAX settings)

3D Modelling and Animation

A little more about myself:

I'm a young 3D lover/enthusiast and an average gamer, I always wanted to make my own desktop

but never really knew how since I have no experience whatsoever in making one.

I design stuff with my current laptop (which i regret buying because i didn't know that

i could get a desktop alot cheaper O.o) which is the MSI-GS70, after a year of buying this laptop

I've had alot of problems with it so instead of buying a new laptop might as well build my first desktop! :D

What's my budget and preference?

Well by budget would be around AUD 3500-4000 (Doesn't matter if i get to 4000 but preferably not :D)

Budget for other accessories such as keyboard, headphones, etc around AUD 500

CPU: Always had Intel so i'm sticking with it

Maybe an with an i7.

Graphics Card: Was gonna go for GTX 1080

but then i would only be thinking about gaming

I have no idea what's good for both Gaming and 3D Modelling.

RAM: 32+ (For High Poly Projects)

Motherboad: No clue on which motherboard i should buy.

HDD & SSD: preferably 500 GB SSD for the OS then another SSD for games

and maybe a 1 TB HDD for my model projects.

Cooling: Whichever will help the desktops performance i guess

Literally don't know anything about Liquid cooling and other types of cooling.

Tower: Don't really have a preference, would only like the tower

to have a really good airflow and if possible cheap.

Other: Would ike the tower to have WiFi

(so if i do end up bringing it to my friends or parents house)

Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse: for the monitor looking for a widescreen

with 144Hz and possibly 29" would be good as for the keyboard and Mouse i'll just

grab them some other time since i'm in no rush

I would just like to thank the people who'd be helping me out in advance! xDxDxD

1080 will be fine.

If your working for a company you get a quadro, but your not working somewhere.

What programs are you using?

Id probably go z170, 6700k, 1080

1920x1080 is good  but if i could get a higher one it would help alot

as for multi monitor, I was just planning to go with one monitor

I'd strongly recommend a 1440p monitor since you're going to be doing productivity work apart from gaming and the extra screen estate and detail will go a long way. That means less performance in games though.

edit: awesome typo :P

Plenty of them :) What size are you interested in? The 27" range is filled with good 1440p options.

When I said you willg et lower performance in games, it wasn't about the monitor itself, but rather because your GPU would have to render more pixels, resulting in less fps. In reality, with a GTX1080 you will be maxing lots of games at a standard 60hz screen at 1440p so the gaming experience should still be top notch.

ohhhh so that's what you meant! well if you could find me a better monitor than the one HKZero provided

Don't buy the wi-fi card, that motherboard already includes wi-fi. If you want, you could add 2 antennas on it and it honestly should be more than fine.

Don't buy the wi-fi card, that motherboard already includes wi-fi. If you want, you could add 2 antennas on it and it honestly should be more than fine.

I can't wait to build this! So excited as this is the first time

I'll be building it :>

The only thing i'm missing now would be the OS right? then i'm pretty much set?

The only other practical thing I could think of (other than an OS) is some actual speakers rather than just a headset, but you could add those literally any time.

Nope, also not needed. The sound card included on your motherboard is more than enough unless you are into professional music production where you'd probably want to use an external, expensive DAC anyway.

Great! now i'm all set, just gotta buy the parts then i'll be off to building!

Btw if anyone here can link me to a tutorial where i don't have to install the

bloatwares, cause i can't really tell if it's a bloatware or not and i

would like to have a clean install where i'm only in need of the install drivers :S

Just buy the retail version of Windows and it won't have any bloatware (other than Microsoft's? :P)
