So my new pc is complete but as you can see in the very quickly made part list that the ram is pretty sketchy. I have 3 sticks of ddr3 1333 mhz and one stick of ddr3 1066 mhz. The system runs well but i think the ram is holding it back. should i upgrade to 8 gigabytes? Is there anything around $30 or less that can get me to 8 gigs?

RAM speed doesn't really affect the performance of programs except if you're using the integrated GPU or you're running file compression. At least, those are the only two scenarios I've seen RAM speed have any appreciable performance impact on.

If you're talking about capacity, then the only time you should really upgrade is when you're truly running out of free memory and your system spends a lot of time swapping pages. And that's after some typical measures to combat this (like closing programs/tabs/etc. you aren't using)

So you wanna swap something sketchy for something sketchy? I have to be realistic, you're not getting anything 8Gb decent anywhere near 30 bucks.

Maybe wait till you have more money?

The only thing bad going on with your ram right now is the 1066mhz forcing the other 3 to go down to 1066 as well, theoretically that wouldn't do any bad besides that, but who knows.

I would advise 2x 4Gb decent sticks, then you're golden.

Best thing to do if you wanna cheap out would be to get another one of those 1333mhz sticks and replacing the 1066 one, assuming they're all the same thing. Othewise you're either gonna drop the coin or risk dropping a lot more coin a lot sooner.

will 1600mhz ram work with my cpu since it is sandy bridge? I read on a random website that the motherboard supports 1600mhz ram but you have to have a 3rd gen cpu to use it
