What motherboard are you specifically using?

And to answer your question in the thread title, the 4690K has four cores.

That boot option thing sets how many cores are used when windows is starting if I remember right.  Not how many are available to windows.

Use CPU-Z and maybe HWmonitor to see if other cores are being recognized and that their temp sensors and all that are working?

Also maybe do a clear CMOS, perhaps the board is just having some sort of problem.

As suggested above, try resetting the CMOS. If your motherboard can use the G3258, it should be able to use the 4690K as they use the same BIOS revision which is P1.30.

just set your bios to default, that should do the trick. (on a decent bios you shouldnt even have to take out cmos battery, they usually have a 'factory defaults' option)

Use your clear CMOS jumper

hmm, try updating to a newer bios version, if that doesn't work, maybe try contacting intel's RMA service.

Make sure power is disconnected and the system is discharged when you do it. With the system plugged in and receiving external power, the battery is not used to hold the settings.
