So I have a 1987 Ford Ranger XLT with a 2.9L but I'm swapping out for a 351 and I was wondering  if anyone on here could recommend any good performance parts that I could add on because we are going to rebuild it before we put it in to my ranger... also why I'm here I would also like a recommendation  for a good exhaust that makes a deep rumble but is loud at the same time.

Thanks for the help in advance ?

Will a 351 fit in a ranger?

You keeping the rear C-clip 8.8?

What transmission?

Will you do a SAS conversion?

Lots of work for a 1/4 ton truck.

I personally would not even bother, just buy a F150.

Unless you want a narrower truck for wheeling, or rock crawling in the trees.

I am looking at 1992-1996 Ford F150, extended cab 6.5" short bed. The prices are dirt cheap. The dimensions matches very nicely to the Eleventh generation (2004–2008) and Twelfth generation (2009–2014) and Thirteenth generation (2015–present). Wheel base, width etc etc etc. Tons of those trucks with blown engines around $1000 - $2500 Cdn$ plus not much has changed, rear tailgate, rear lights, and headlights. So my idea is to buy an old F150 and put on a newer body.

I personally do not like technology, saves a few pennies on gas yes. But you want a part or body panel its gunna cost ya because they are newer rides. Either way gas is gunna be killer, plus parts. I dont know if you have access to cheap parts or not. But I like your idea of old school, fuel injected, just keep it simple.

Might be easier to buy a F150 and slap your ranger body on. But I dont know which way you wanna go.

Alot of it is most likely going to be some junkyard parts my grandpa owns  a shop and my moms friend is helping me do it because he works at a shop and yes a 351c will fit they do it all the time and they are mean. I can't remember what kind of transmission we are gonna get but I think it was either a 3 speed or a 4 speed... I as just wondering because they also make a stroker kit that turns it to a 408... I read an article about them doing that and switching out some other parts they pushed 707 horse out of the 351c, of course I'm not looking at that kind of power but it would be cool to at least push out 400 horse with that stroker kit and some Aussie heads but I heard that you have to get dished pistons because if you don't you have a crazy compression  rate that it won't handle for long.
