Xbox and pc

Go to solution Solved by Matsy,

It looks like this

attachicon.gif043-halo-3-xbox-360_medium.JPG

so erm how would i connect the xbox to the monitor.

Kay so you don't even have a VGA port, I thought you did :P

If your monitor is only a VGA, you will have to buy a HDMI to VGA converter as-well.

EDIT: NVM :D

You can buy one of these since you have a HDMI port....combine both into one.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDMI-to-VGA-3-5mm-Jack-Audio-Cable-Video-Converter-Adapter-PC-Laptop-Xbox-DVD-/251261699944?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a805d4768

Which cuts the need for any other cables as it has an audio out port.

You just need to buy that + a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-to-3-5mm-Jack-Audio-iPod-Aux-MP3-car-Cable-1-5M-/271176094435?pt=UK_CE_MP3Access_RL&hash=item3f235ad2e3 if its not long enough, into your motherboard/sound card. and a VGA extension if you need that also.

And you are done ^^ both video and audio in one cable for little cost.

I currently have an xbox 360 for exclusives and a pc that i play games on the most what i was wondering is if i got a VGA extension cable and hooked that up to my monitor would it be feasible to just switch the connection to the extension between my pc and xbox  by just switching the cable but this doesn't answer the problem of sound is there a way i could play the sound through my earphones using my pc as the middle man so i connect my headphones as per usual but change a setting in windows to play the sound coming through the remaining red and white cables.

Thanks in advance.

Get one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RCA-Stereo-Audio-Splitter-Cable-Lead-3-5mm-Jack-Female-Socket-to-2-x-Male-Phono-/271176572471?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3f23621e37

And one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-to-3-5mm-Jack-Audio-iPod-Aux-MP3-car-Cable-1-5M-/271176094435?pt=UK_CE_MP3Access_RL&hash=item3f235ad2e3

And one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Cable-Adapter-XBOX-Slim/dp/B002TK1R0G

Connect the the adapter to your xbox, then the red+white cable to the adapter, then the other wire into that and then into the Line Out port on your motherboard/sound card.

Then set that port to listen in recording devices.

That will play the xbox audio on your headphones.

And can't you just switch the inputs on your monitor?

Nope single VGA input

So your PC is connected by VGA to your montior?

The second cable won't do since you need to have the RCA go to a headphone slot.

The cable you linked is for connecting to a TV into RCA, you need to have it output to a 3.5m, not RCA.

Bascially you need inthis order:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Cable-Adapter-XBOX-Slim/dp/B002TK1R0G into xbox (you should already have one....they come in the xbox box)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RCA-Stereo-Audio-Splitter-Cable-Lead-3-5mm-Jack-Female-Socket-to-2-x-Male-Phono-/271176572471?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3f23621e37 into the above cable

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-to-3-5mm-Jack-Audio-iPod-Aux-MP3-car-Cable-1-5M-/271176094435?pt=UK_CE_MP3Access_RL&hash=item3f235ad2e3 into the above cable, then into your mother/sound card (you might have this, if you have a box of cables like most people :D, my box is massive lol)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350757995018?var=620109226843 from xbox to monitor.

You probably want a VGA switch then, changing the input manually would be annoying and probably bound to break a pin eventually.

Compared to spending the amount for a switch and the amount for another cable i would rather go for another cable i mean this is just a temporary solution until christmas... maybe.

Is this the back of your xbox? http://assets.gearlive.com/blogimages/gallery/halo-3-xbox-360-console/043-halo-3-xbox-360.JPG

Also if your motherboard/sound card has a optical in, you can connect an optical cable from http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Cable-Adapter-XBOX-Slim/dp/B002TK1R0G straight into that slot on your motherboard/sound card, skipping the need for other cables.

Well you have to do that regardless because you don't have a VGA port on your xbox (I assumed you did :P)

You would have to buy a HDMI to VGA adapter in any circumstance ONTOP of having all the cables needed for the audio.

That would be more expensive than this one cable/adapter which can do it all in one.

Just to clarify.

You need:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDMI-to-VGA-3-5mm-Jack-Audio-Cable-Video-Converter-Adapter-PC-Laptop-Xbox-DVD-/251261699944?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a805d4768

Then a VGA extension to connect it to your monitor.

Ah ok ;p

Well you can do any option, just the above will be less of a mess of cables everywhere :c

Or here is another option that I just thought about....

Use the cable you have: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350326510305 (if you have it ?)

Then, one of these into the RCA jacks on the cable

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Phono-RCA-Sockets-to-3-5mm-Jack-Socket-Adapter-Cable-/200663333657?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item2eb8777b19

Then http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-to-3-5mm-Jack-Audio-iPod-Aux-MP3-car-Cable-1-5M-/271176094435?pt=UK_CE_MP3Access_RL&hash=item3f235ad2e3 into that cable then into your PC

Might be a cheaper option for you and less of a mess!
