I don't buy this argument. Anyone who finds themselves starved for VRAM can lower settings in games be it textures or volumetric effects.

On the other hand, I can see why people say the RX 470 4GB is a better value at the same price even though it has less performance: it's got that magic 4GB VRAM that will be about the limit devs will impose on themselves when making a game pretty.

But either way, RX 470 or GTX 1060, you will have to tweak settings to get constant 1080p60 in the most demanding games, and that's fine; it's good that you can tweak graphics settings.

To conclude, anyone who can't stand having to "lower settings" will not be satisfied by either card, but value chasers who care to tweak will be satisfied by any of the two.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

The GTX 1060 3GB is actually the GTX 1050 3GB...and is worse value than the RX 470.

This is DOOM in Vulkan. If the RX 470 were to beat the GTX 1060 1152-Core Edition, it would be here. You can count a Factory OC of the G1 Gaming to argue that they are about on par.

jc3_1920_1080.png

Even Just Cause 3 shows a big lead for the 1060 1152-Core, even though the RX 480 beats is by quite a bit as well.

As for worse value, let's compare the price of the cheapest over at PCPP

http://pcpartpicker.com/product/xgBrxr/powercolor-radeon-rx-470-4gb-red-dragon-video-card-axrx-470-4gbd5-3dhdoc

http://pcpartpicker.com/product/HWtWGX/evga-geforce-gtx-1060-3gb-gaming-video-card-03g-p4-6160

$5 Difference. For a GPU that's closer to the RX 480 in performance than it is to the 470.

I'm not against the RX 470, but I feel like I've made my argument as to why it's worse value than a GTX 1060 3GB.

It should have been the GTX 1060, and the 6GB one would have probably been the 1060Ti. The X50 cards usually are in the 150 price point (750ti, 950), don't see why it would jump to 200 USD, plus early rumours were indicating that we were going to get a 1060Ti this generation way back then (I remember making a post about it back then in the news section). Won't be surprised if Nvidia decided both were to be called the 1060.

Regardless, back in the topic at hand, if you can afford the extra cash (assuming it isn't something ridiculous) to get the 6GB version or the 8GB RX 480 do it. Unless you are not planning to keep this card for long, it's a good idea to get the extra VRAM just in case while you can afford it.

If you want to reply back to me or someone else USE THE QUOTE BUTTON!
