I live in a very old house that only has wired internet in one room. I have a flat ether net cable running from that room into my bedroom where my pc setup is. Could I put an ethernet splitter on the end of that cable so I wouldn't have to run another cable to my room from the router? Would it lower my up/down on my pc and by how much. The cable is a cat 7 Idk if that would be able to handle more than 1 connection or anything.

You could go through the trouble of splitting the cable to make two connections or you can buy a 5 port switch for about $30. Something like this:

It would be better to go with a switch rather than a splitter.

I believe a splitter can only reach 100Mb/s.

Where as a swtich can reach up to 1000Mb/s or 1Gb/s and beyond.

Not that you have 1Gb connection, but if you where to have two PC's. Might has well have the faster option for not a lot more money.

There would also be room for expansion then as well.

You can pick up a 5 port gigabit switch for £20/$25 or even cheaper.

It depends what you are doing and your hardware.

If you are wanting to connect another device to the internet, than it shouldn't be any real noticeable difference using an splitter.

If it's just a basic NAS storage device for your home network, it will be fine also.
