So i was going to be building a rig this Christmas, and between my other components I'm left with about 300 bucks to put into a video card, but the sweet spots seems to be 200 or 400 dollars between the 480 and 1070, with a significant price gap. was hoping some of you might know the sweet spot for $300. also I'm running 3 1080p monitors so 4-8 gb vram is essential. I'm slightly amd biased and want the build to be a little more amd based but if the nvidia card is a better value I will go with it. thanks :)

I bought a broken GTX 970 on ebay about a month ago, I knew it was made <3 years ago though and it had a warranty period of 3 years.

So i got it in and RMA'd it as soon as I got it.

Cost me about $150 with shipping and everything. GTX 970 for $150 :D Can't ask for a better deal tbh

I'd get a 480. I've seen a lot of Reddit users claim that it actually provides a better experience (less stuttering, I guess)

On the plus side, if you have a CrossFireX capable motherboard you could always get another 480. I don't normally recommend crossfire sue to the issues involved but it's something to consider if you're gaming at 1080p and you want some security for the next few years.

Example: buy a 480 today and in a year or two, if you can't justify the cost of a brand new card, get another 480 to give it a longevity boost. If not for the SLI issue, I'd recommend a 1060 though since AMD is still behind my a small amount. Factually, the 1060 is currently the best card in the under $300 range.

If you can get $360 together somehow then you can get the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Windforce OC on jet.com with the promo code. Im not a gigabyte fanboy or anything, they just happen to have the cheapest cards i can find while not being too bad of quality. Also im not affiliated with Jet but $30 of is $30 off.

You can RMA it without any identification info? hmm sounds exploitable af

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

Motherboard won't fit in case, I'd either get an mATX motherboard or an ATX case.

Also I would get a Seasonic S12II 520w or a CX550m, 450w just seems to little.

not the mobo just the cpu

If you don't have it then I'd just buy an i5-6500 system new. This is $30 over budget, but it would be a significantly better gaming system. In your proposed FX system you'd have to spend at least that for a cpu cooler and better psu anyways. If you absolutely can't spend that $30 you could drop to a GTX 1060 3GB or an i5-6400.
