that CPU is fine, i would upgrade GPU first, to something like an RX 470

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Hey, your current CPU shouldn't be hindering you, there is no real need to upgrade imo, plus finding a sandy bridge cpu to drop in might be hard, you might have to look on ebay.

Yeah the CPU would be fine for the GPU you have or a mild upgrade like this. You still don't need a better upgrade unless you want to jump into high end territory.

isnt an RX 470 like a GTX 960 though? wouldnt he better off selling the 960 and buying a 1060? but even then at 1080p a 960 still isn't a bad card... still beats a potato 8800 GT

A 480 maybe better.

so a 40% increase in performance from the 470 compared to the 960? in thats case i think the best upgrade for him is to sell the 960 and use the money he made along with a little extra and buy a 1060. i think he can make $150 for a GTX 960

As in you live stream and record sometimes? If so, I would personally look around for a uses i7-2600/k if not just hold out until Zen or see if you can strike a deal on Skylake in the used market after Kaby Lake is released.

If you do a lot of recording, then having a better cpu is good but right now, you already have a pretty good one. I would recommend a new gpu for gaming but is really not needed for the games you play right now but if I had to choose which one to upgrade, i would choose the gpu. Get something like the GTX 1060, the price is way lower than all the other new releases and has the same clock speed as the GTX 1070 but if you have a bigger budget then you can spend it on the GTX 1080 for that optimal performance.

But if i was to change the cpu what is the best choice,

According the price and all that cpu stuff

And better then mine

An i5 2500 would give 10% more cpu performance.  Don't bother upgrading your gpu as the £/performance of the upgrade would be really really bad.
