260GB 850 EVO M.2 or 512GB SP900 M.2?

Truex98

Im currently in the market for a new laptop for school and gaming. Was going to buy a Asus ROG with a 960M right until i heard about these Pascal cards being put in laptops and of course i stopped myself. I really like the ROG GL502VM with its sleekness, 15.6 inch screen, and 1TB hdd. However my only dislike was no ssd to boot from. I have a 850 Evo on my desktop and it has spoiled me even being a sata drive compared to my old HDD on my current 5 year old HP laptop. I did think about just doing it and living off that 1TB 7200RPM, but i wanna go fast. So i kept looking around and only found the option to get this model of laptop with a ssd was from IBUYPOWER.com. So seeing that a 256 850 EVO m.2 ssd was around 110 bucks extra i was debating if I should pull the trigger. Then i looked down a little more and noticed that the Adata SP900 512GB M.2 ssd was 50 bucks off. Meaning only 150 bucks for a 500gb ssd vs 110 bucks for 260gb. I thought "i dont know it really does kick up the price". But then i saw there was free shipping for laptops, which usually is 50 bucks. Then i decided to see if there were any coupon codes available. Boom, 5% off a $1000 system. Which in this case is a $75 dollar saving. Meaning That with the 50 dollars off the ssd, plus 50 bucks off shipping, plus 75 bucks off with the coupon i could basically get my dream laptop for around $1450. My only reason for holding back as we speak is 1, by adding the ssd will windows come installed on it already or will it be on the hard disk and i have to go do it myself. 2, will IBUYPOWER adding this ssd void my Asus warranty or do they work with asus or offer their own warranty (and from what ive read the asus warranty is still golden with them adding the ssd, sent a email though just to make sure and waiting for a reply at the moment). And then the question if the SP900 is even a reliable, fast, and decent drive. I of course have heard of Adata and know they make great drives, but im putting this thing up against a Samsung ssd which are around top of the hill when it comes to ssd's. So what im asking you guys basically, is the SP900 a good drive or should i go with a 260GB Samsung or even just pay a little more and get the 500gb Samsung, if you guys know if they will install windows on the chosen ssd for me, and if you happen to know the warranty situation that IBUYPOWER does on these Asus laptops. Thanks for any responses and hopefully you guys can help me gain a little knowledge on what path to choose here.

DO NOT GET THE SAMSUNG M.2. It is cheap because the VNAND is "corrupted" and the speed of the SSD will go down to the speed of a HDD in a matter of months..

That is not correct at all. I own both a Samsung 850 EVO and a 951 - no speed issues whatsoever.

Yeah, I agree in that case, Samsung is one of the top SSD manufacturers there is and I trust them. Plus a 1 year warranty on it doesn't hurt just in case.B|

Samsung and Intel both have top-notch products.

I plan on buying a laptop soon and am not sure what ssd route i should go. I can get a Samsung 850 Evo 250GB M.2 ssd for $110 or i could get a 512GB Adata SP900 M.2 ssd for $149 on sale 50 bucks off. Im just wondering if you guys could tell me what my best option would be here. Go with the slightly cheaper, but probably better quality Samsung ssd, or the higher storage ssd in the Adata. I have never used any Adata products, although i do know they are good products and aren't going to die instantly. I do know however they are slightly on the cheaper side of the storage rankings. So what would you guys do, less storage and possibly more reliable. Or pay a little more and get twice the storage. Or maybe even just pay up even more and get a Samsung 500GB which id rather not do. A note, the laptop will have a 1TB hard disk but if i can get another couple hundred gigs of storage for a few bucks. Thanks for the responses.:D

Sorry, wasn't getting many responses in the laptop category and wanted to move it over to storage.

wait I cannot tell if you are serious or not? Samsung makes some of the best SSDs and if that was really true then I would have a lot of angry customers and I don't think samsung would give those long warranties, if they had that problem. You are really not getting anything better than samsung.
