black screen after log in

posting for a friend, this forum is the absolute best at solving problems that i find so im gonna give this a shot. system will not boot past windows 7 log in screen.

all we see is a black screen with a moveable mouse pointer. cannot access task manager whether we boot into safe mode or normal, no system restore was ever set and when i enter the f8 menu instead of bios to try last known good setup it doesnt work either, thank you so much.

Have you waited for at least half an hour, it happened once for me too, my computer took half an hour to load everything for some reason.
