So I bought 2 copies of doom 4, but I can't return them. So my question is, If I want to sell it to someone on my campus, can I just give them the code by it's self, or does it require game disc? (because I want to keep the disc without asking for it back) and before you say "just google it" I just want to say WHY ASK ON A FORUM IF I CAN GOOGLE IT? because the answer is not on google, nor on the case of the game, nor the sleeve that the CD-key is on. I know this is probably the wrong forum to be asking these kinds of questions, but i mean, i never get to use this website and I have an account so why not eh?

Doom requires Steam, I bought a physical copy.

To answer OP's question, you can give them the key. Giving them the disc will shorten the download time by whatever 50GB minus 8GB or so is for them.

The codes should redeem to Steam since the multiplayer function requires Steamworks. You should be fine selling it to them. Just remember the disc probably won't work for that copy since it's linked to a single user account (meaning you can't give the codes AND use the discs).

The keys for doom just run straight through steam. So yeah you basically the sell the key to someone because then it just registers to a steam account, then download it from steam- no disc required

ummm, idk how or why but i think i messed things up, ok so i have 2 physical copies of doom. I use 1 code and install the game without the disc and run the game just fine. I gave THAT disc to a friend of mine (for free) without the code (since i used it). so now that i have the game installed to my PC, i have to deal with my second physical copy. I want to keep the disc and give the code but once i read your comment saying you need both i decided to plug the disc from the second Doom game into my computer and BAM it still worked! so i can just give the code away and be fine. So in conclusion, i think the disc has nothing to do with steam (rather then shortening the download time) and the disc is not locked to an account. But I could also be wrong since i never used the first doom disc.

TLDR: Disc doesn't lock to account (maybe) but thanks for the help!

I meant that the disc works for downloading the game, but it doesn't give you access to the game. You need the activation/steam code. So the disc+code = 1 copy of the game basically, not 4 copies.

oh yeah, that's given. Otherwise everyone would just buy the physical copy and get 2 games for the price of one. I just wanted to keep the disc because it takes a load off of the loading time for my HDD.

the GAME is the KEY...the DISC is just to save you the download...the KEY is worth $$$...the DISC is worth pennies. ;)
