Maximum GPU for i7 2600

I really appreciate all the advice, but I think I will stick with the GTX 960, and maybe buy a used $100 GPU for the FX-4300. Considering I bougt this CPU and GPU for this (new to me) 5 year old PC within the last year, I think I will just enjoy it until I build another from the ground up in another two years.

I don't know too much about AMD GPUs, any suggestions for a used older gen for $100usd used? I would like to keep the FX machine all AMD just for kicks.

Well, for amd gpus while not necessarily old a good $100 dollar card is the r7 360, that'd be my recommendation.

Thinking about upgrading the GPU in the Lenovo and swapping the 4gb OC edition gtx 960 into the FX 4300 machine.

What is the maximum GPU that would run pretty evenly with a non-K i7 2600?

Or should I leave the 960 in the Intel rig and do an RX 460 for all AMD tomfoolery?

I think the maximum would be GTX 1070 but that is kinda pushing it... o3o (or maybe a cheap R9 Fury X if you find that? There is no such thing as a bad GPU just a bad price!) ;)

Resolution? monitor`? how many hz?

Well, the higher the resolution, the more fpu usage it has, so the bottleneck shouldnt be that big, if its even there.

1080p 60hz on a 40" TV. GTAV, both metros redux, CSGO, SWBF, anything else I feel like buying. I would like to have a PC capable of playing any game I choose at a decent fps.

GTAV currently runs at ~58FPS high settings.

with a 2600 you should be able to run a 1070 no problem, all demanding games now support HT anyways.

The reason for the post, is I will need a GPU for my FX machine. Should I just get something to compliment the FX 4300, or get something that might better compliment the i7 2600?

GTX 1070 would be overkill for 1080p 60hz. I have a 980ti on my 60hz TV and it's more than enough.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to spend too much on a wasted video card. 1070 would be cool, but wasted in my case.

gi with an rx 470 or r9 380

If u really want to stretch it, r9 390/rx480, but its most probably going to bottleneck(a bit) at some games like Fallout or Assasins creed

Bottle necking doesn't bother me, and its a term I'd rather not use. I just don't want to waste money on a part that wont perform because of other components. Bottle necking is just a stupid term invented by the "PC master race" for other parts sucking. I don't think a hotrodder has ever called his 2.73:1 differential gears a bottleneck, and I cringe every time I hear anyone hear use it. Match your parts, or go for broke with each upgrade, but for the love of god (or whatever) don't go on about bottlenecks.

With the i7 in 1080p it's hard to beat the 1060, you can get good fps on almost any game in 1080p for a good price. Or if you want to go amd you could get the rx 480 which is a similar story. They should not bottleneck in any most titles (maybe a bit in really cpu intensive ones) but even if it does you will still see a performance increase over the 960. Also, for the fx-4300, I wouldn't go any higher than a 960.

I don't think the 1070 would be wasted, you can't even get 60 fps on the 1070 at 1080p very high on the new Deus Ex.

dex_1920.jpg

There will surely be more games like it. If you don't want to spend $430 though the GTX 1060 6GB is still an enormous improvement over the GTX 960, I mean night and day. We're talking almost 90% higher framerates at 1080p in the techpowerup testsuite of games. So 1060 would be an awesome upgrade also.

Seems a little shady having two cards that trade blows with each other in various titles being in completely different tiers...

Well, for amd gpus while not necessarily old a good $100 dollar card is the r7 360, that'd be my recommendation.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to spend too much on a wasted video card. 1070 would be cool, but wasted in my case.

i use an i5 4690k stock and 970 stock for 1440p gaming and most games can be run @ultra with no AntiAlaising at 60fps avg
