you already have a k processor lol. the 6600K. however the H170 will not allow you to overclock.. it's not supported. you need a Z170 mobo

as for the GPU it depends on what you're aiming for. what monitor do you have and what games are you gonna be playing?

Well a i5 will bottleneck a 1070 in some games and if you want to OC a K CPU then you need a Z170 board, not H170 or B170. Faster ram also helps in some games like BF4, where you get more FPS with faster ram.

It is really up to you if you think it is worth getting a 1070 and K CPU, also: b41227d61898217535329a3fdc5d06ee.png

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

he'll be ok if he stays at 60fps.

he will still see a bottleneck, if you see the video then the CPU is very often over 70% and it would be worse with a 1070 and with future games. I am not just thinking this year, I am thinking 2-3 years into the future.

EDIT

Remember that the 1060 in that video is not running at 100% all the time, if it ever did and if you let it run at 100% then CPU usage will go up.

I'd say if you want to stay on a budget go for i5-6600 (non K) rather than i5-6500. The price delta is 20$ or less and you get +300Hz boost clock, which will matter for sure in CPU bound games. The K version forces you to buy a cooler (the stock one should be enough if you don't live on a desert) and a much more expensive mobo.

The original question was about GTX 1060 vs GTX 1070. The 3GB version is of 1060 is twice as cheap as 1070, but if you are going for 1060 is there a point in buying i5? For just gaming i3 should be enough. There is a cool article on anandtech about i3 processors that shows there is not much of a difference between i5-6600 and i3-6100 in gaming. It's for you to decide though if you'd benefit from two real cores rather than hyperthreading. i3-6100 + 1060 is like 300$ while i5-6600 + 1070 is closer to 600$. It all comes down to how much you want to spend on your machine.
