Upgrading from an APU

Danang

I built my PC around 2 years ago with an A6-6400k and an MSI A78M-E35 (strict budget at the time). Last year, I added a GTX 750ti. Now, I'm considering upgrading my CPU to a quad core. However, I'm not sure to upgrade, or build a brand new PC instead. The options I'm considering are:

  • upgrade to X4 860k (same FM2+ socket)
  • build new PC based on Skylake (6600k?) or Zen

I'm not sure if the jump to DDR4 would be worth the extra 100+ USD. Also, I'm not sure if my 750ti would bottleneck a Skylake/Zen PC. Which route should I go with? I'm not much in a hurry as I could probably wait for Zen to come out.

Save for the new platform, the 750ti will most likely bottleneck, but you cant say youre not gettig your full potential out of it! And youre still going to see a rise in frame rates overall especially in cpu intensive games like Cities: Skylines
