Hi guys, I'm currently purchasing and budgeting for a brand new build and am wanting to share it with you to see if the parts I've chosen are gonna suit me well in your expert (I hope) perspectives. I've done endless hours of research into each of the parts in order to not have a shitty build like my current system, and ensure it is fully optimised for the likes of 4K and RAW + ProRes!

CPU:  Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor

CPU Cooler:  be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3

Motherboard:  ASRock X99 Extreme4 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard

Memory:  Kingston HyperX Fury Black 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory

SSD:  Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

HDD:  Western Digital Blue 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive

GPU:  Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card

Case:  NZXT H440 (Matte Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU:  EVGA 600W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply

Extra Case Fans (Top Mounted): Corsair Air Series AF-120 White 2 Pack

Just to let you know I already have the GTX 970 and the PSU in my current build and would transfer them over. And have already bought the 5820k which peeps over my monitor at me, constantly reminding me to never spend and SAVE.

I am nowhere near sure but I guess if you can find some deal on a used server with a more then 6 core xeon (and I have seen them go for absurdly low prices compared to what you proposed) you might be better of but I don't know exactly if that is the better idea.

Most of the time a 5820 will be faster than a 8 or 12 core xeon as most editing software likes clock speed as well as cores.

Electronics Wizardy is right. I will also prefer you going with the i7 6 core processor rather than going for a 8 core xeon. The only thing you can improve in this build is the gpu, go for 1060> It is faster than 970 and has more memory too. The power supply you choose is more than enough. You can go with a 500W gold certified power supply.

Good advice. I will eventually buy a 1070, but my 970 has been with me less than a year so I want to make good use of it first. The power supply I already currently have, but may invest in a better certified one.
