I can't get stable 60FPS in Fallout 3?

I have tried on all low settings and max at 1440P but my PC can't hold 60FPS? in the Wasteland i get some stutter though it's not unplayable. And sometimes i drop under 30FPS when like the guys with Power Armor attack me randomly i get some really large FPS drops?

Oh yeah my other games work fine. Fallout 3 has a shit fit also sometimes will crash randomly like when i did one of DLC Operation Anchorage, but doing quick save was a win.

Try installing to a different disk.

Also can you check if any background apps are being opened by FO3?

See, what we have here is obviously a CPU bottleneck... I'm sorry but your 6800K isn't fast enough for the GTX 1080. I'm sorry. You should have bought the GTX 740.

ive had some(a lot) problems with the game aswell when i got it on sale and there should be mods on nexus that fixed the problem, this should help with the stuttering and getting stable fps http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/8886/?, looking for more mods that i used to get the game stable

you might be onto somthing though, if i remember fallout3 didnt work well with multi core cpus in its vanilla state, atleaast i had that problem untill i did lots of modding

Yup, it's pretty much par for the course for some of these games. There should be a performance ENB for it, if you are familiar with ENBs. http://enbdev.com/download_mod_falloutnv.htm

I'll look into it a bit more later, but it's a few things to try for now.

Looks like i may have to start all over again to do all this?

I had D3D9 DLL that turn my 1080 into 7800GT or something, and that is maybe the cause of te FPS problem, but now game not work at all even from new game if i disable it.

I have fixed by installing FOSE and running 4GB patch on FOSE.exe then launching from FOSE renamed to Fallout 3 on desktop.

 

I still get FPS drop but it is because i use custom CELL loading and graphics are upgraded more from standard.

First thing you should do is let Geforce Experience optimize Fallout for you. It sounds strange but a lot of people (myself included) were able to get better and much more stable framerates by letting it do its thing first, then you can tweak the settings to what you want.

 

Get Dynamic Shadows too (http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1822/?) if you don't have it already, it dynamically alters shadow render distance to try to keep your FPS at your desired target, and gives a huge boost in dense areas.
