Its got a private IP address, all pings went through with 1ms and 0% loss.

Try with connecting with the IP address instead of the PC name.

Im attempting to access an external drive, connected to my ASUS laptop, shared via the network to my desktop.

It worked for a good week, so i've started sharing existing drives in my desktop to the laptop too - and it's been working without a hitch.

But now i've come across a problem. The external drive is not showing up on my desktop anymore - and when i manually try and connect to it, i get this:

NoConnect1.PNG

followed by

NoConnect2.PNG

And then

NoConnect3.PNG

As well as

NoConnect4.PNG

I've got no idea as to why - but any help is appreciated at this point

Check if the ip address has changed or if the PC has an IP address.

I didnt share it by IP - shared by device name. (Not that advanced in networking as i am IT, so all i did was "Share" in the right click menu and set the permissions to the point where everything worked properly and restricted those that shouldnt have had access)

I know..... If it doesn't have an IP address or it incorrect then you'll can't connect. Also, try pining the PC.

Thank you sir - That worked. I assume making the IP address static will avoid this issue in the future?

Yes. Keep the PC on a static IP. :)
