I am using an older mac that is a dual core and it is hitting 100% CPU usage when playing 1080p videos sometimes. I was wondering if there was a way I could use my GPU instead of my CPU or atleast just use my GPU for the video part. Thanks

Google Chrome uses the GPU for videos.

Unfortunately the GPU excels in doing the same calculations over and over and over and over and over and over, etc. ... and this makes them similar in performance to a CPU while using more power so the loss outweighs the gains.

I would suggest using an SSD if it doesn't have one as the responsiveness of programs will increase when using one even if the program is utilizing RAM.

Unfortunately the GPU excels in doing the same calculations over and over and over and over and over and over, etc. ... and this makes them similar in performance to a CPU while using more power so the loss outweighs the gains.

I would suggest using an SSD if it doesn't have one as the responsiveness of programs will increase when using one even if the program is utilizing RAM.

 

I already have an 850 EVO Pro in it and 8gb of RAM. I just hit 100% CPU usage when using Opera so I might try chrome but it stutters in 1080 but 720 is fine
