HELP MOBO PANIC

Go to solution Solved by Andster29,

As a last measure, just take it and unplug everything. Let it sit for a day with no power in it at all. When you do RMA the board, call ASUS directly and play dumb. Emailing them takes an eternity and a half. Just call, get it done in a hour and don't give away what you did. Tell them it just stoped working. It will cost like $10 to ship. Yes I know it sucks, but better than getting a brand new board. Use the box the board came in to ship it to them. Not the full box , but the smaller one the the board was physically in.

SO I am really freaking out right now. I just got an LED strip for my case, and the one of the strips managed to hit my Asus Z97-AR mobo. It was only on there long enough to restart the system. It made a bad smell and a little bity spark direcly on the board. I don't have a mobo speaker. It boots just fine except there is no display. I reinstalled both my 970 and Ram, and I even tried the onboard graphics. No screen whatsoever. Please help.. I am only 14 so my computer is literally the only physical thing I have besides my laptop and phone. Its estimated worth is $1500. Thanks

Did you make sure all connections are secure? Also..make sure that your monitor is still plugged in. Hope it's only a little situation that can be easily fixed.

Could be just a faulty cable by the way so try to use a different one.

Man...that blows. Replacing the Motherboard (assuming that is the issue) may require you to replace other core components as well.

This is why you turn your PC off and unplug it before changing things...

It made a spark even when the entire PC was off and unplugged? Were you using some obscure RGB lighting strips?

THe pc was on when it hit. The led strips had a metal connector on the end that was apparently outputting electricity and that hit the board. I swear if i lose this computer...

Tried moving the GPU into another PCi-Express slot? while you said you tried onboard, you tried that after removing the 970?

How did the RGB strip hit the MOBO? It just fell off? Was it glued onto the inside of the case or was it a magnet connection?

Take a couple of deep breaths. Try everything one step at a time. Never try to do multiple steps at once. Take another the monitor and try hooking it up to your laptop. This will see if the monitor is still working.  Next: take your system to the basics (GPU out, no keyboard or mouse, unplug everything except the display). Try turning it on plugged into the onboard graphics. If that works, plug everything in one item at a time.

Pretty sure its done. I cannot test the other hardware. I tried the SSD so I am sure the HDD is fine to. Would anyone know if a short circuit affects your CPU/GPU/ or RAM? Is there any way to repair it?
