should i go 2k or 4k?

hi guys..i am building a new pc after 2 years..i am from asia so i am importing all my items from amazon through a dealer...i would like u guys to recommend and suggest a monitor i should go with a 4k or 2k..my brother saying go with 4k as it is future profing i want to go with 2k as it is a bit cheap and i think that the grpahics card that i am ordering 1070 with bottleneck with 4k.i am providing the links of the 4k and 2 k scrren below both are acer.

 

this is 4k has everything

this 2k one also has everything only like 120 dollars cheaper

 

guys i checked a lot of forums and videos ppl say go with acer ..asus is also a choice but ppl say it has some problems out of the box but if reocmmend some asus screen i am all ears or any other brand but remember for gaming.

other specs about the pc i am building are as follows:

gtx 1070 msi 8g

i5 6600k

asrock motherboard..it has sli if i go with 4k if 2k i will get a cheaper motherboard to save some cash

evga bronze plus psu

crucial 8gb ram

toshiba ssd

 

these are the specs..plz suggest.

Personally I prefer 1440p especially 144hz - no 4k scaling issues, better performance, easier to drive

No 1440p is not 2k 1080p is closer to 2k

 

DCI cinema 2k is 2048x1080

 

1440p is more like 2.7k

Smartphones have 2560x1440 and its called 2K. We rarely hear the word 2.5K or even 3K. I say 2K for 2560 is an approriate measure :p. But okay for the info.

Number of pixels 4k =  8294400 (or  8847360 for DCI 4k)

number of pixels of 2560*1440 =  3686400

 

Based on this 2560*1440 is EXACTLY 0.44444444444  number of pixels of 4k so its not even 2K.

Go for 1440p, it scales better and 4k isnt that much clearer on a pc monitor sized screen

Agreed here!

 

4k scaling is still FAR FAR FAR from perfect, and its not that appreciable sharper at 27", where 1440p is good enough to remove AA from games (or just use like 2x) and you get 144hz etc and GPU will perform better for longer in newer games

In 2016, 1440p is better in every practical way. It's runable without a crazy setup, and can have some really nice refresh rates. the 1070 will handle 1440p really comforably.

 

Now: notice the "in 2016" asterisk. 4k will become more managable in the not-too-distant future.

Depends on whom you ask. Newegg considers four or five resolutions to be "2K." Neither 2K nor 4K are terms with definite, official meanings. 2K is particularly unclear.

Monitor resolutions are never requirements, so I don't quite understand how one could be considered "future proof." It's a matter of what you personally want your PC to be able to do, and how expensive you want it to be to keep up with new games.

 

One GTX 1070 is not appropriate for 3840x2160 gaming unless you plan to play games from 2013 and earlier. There really isn't any single video card that can be relied upon for 4K at 60 FPS and high/max settings in a wide range of new games. You really should have two high-end cards in SLI for 4K, in my opinion.

But you can't play 4k content natively, which is sad.

I have a slightly older model Acer Predator 1440p monitor. I naivly think that the one you're looking at is newer, and therefore better, than mine.

 

I freaking love my acer 1440p monitor, so you will be happy with your purchase. I think.

Okay so it should be like this:

 

1280x720 - > 1,2K

1920x1080 -> 1,9K

2048x1080 -> 2K

2560x1440 -> 2,5K

3440x1440 -> 3K

3840x2160 -> 3,8K

4096x2160 -> 4K

 

But we cant forget that people will keep saying that 1920x1080 is 1K, 2560x1440 is 2K and 3840x2160 is 4K, altough its FHD, QHD and UHD and not the number terminology in exact. Sorry @ShadowCaptain for the confusion, its just that most smartphone tech reviewers will just keep calling 2560 2K rather than 2,5K.

yeah and they are all wrong haha

 

I mean there was the old gen go pro silver shot 2.7k for example and that was 2704:1520

 

Anyone that calls 1440p 2k, is 100% wrong


Now, these are "cinema resolutions" but it should give you a rough idea

 

so 1k is sorta 1280x720

2k is sorta 1080p

3k is a bit higher than 1440p hence 2.7k

4k is actually quite different but you get the picture
