Is Underclocking Bad?

So I overclocked my i5-4690k to 4.3Ghz and I realized that I dont need the overclock that much because I have a 970.  I would like to completly set it back to 3.5Ghz (factory frequency) or 3.8Ghz but I dont know how many volts to set it to. I've heard bad things about underclocking and I would like a solid answer. Thanks.

Also, going back to stock isn't underclocking. You can just reset the bios to factory defaults and let the voltage be whatever originally was, or just lower the frequency and see how low you can get the voltage while still stable (kind of reverse overclocking, but essentially the same principle).

 

You may have heard stories about undervolting (trying to reduce energy consumption without giving up much performance), but it's like overclocking, a matter of getting stable results or going back closer to stock.

Set the frequency and voltage to auto. BIOS will figure it out.

Underclocking isn't bad but it is pointless,  under volting or overclocking at a the same voltage is more efficient.
