Hey guys, long time lurker of LTT Forums but this is my first post!

Anyways, im looking at building a new rig in october time which is primarily going to be used for gaming, editing and general work use, below is what i have come up with so far, the build will be fully watercooled with a custom hard tubing loop and parts from EKWB and Alphacool. My budget is around the £2k mark but can be increased if needed.

The CPU must be able to be overclocked, to a decent standard, this is a minimum requirement for my build.

The case will be a EVGA DG-87 for definite as i already have this on pre-order.

if you are going to do full water cooling why bother getting the Hyper 212? other then that it looks good, a bit to big powersupply tho, you can use a 650W SuperNova G2 instead :)

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

I'm going to get that cooler just to start with as my pc at the moment is becoming abit redundant, and as I will need this pc up and running from day one I will add the custom loop at a later date, I chose that power supply for future proofing reasons, I'll take a look at the 650w you have suggested, thanks for the info!

Yeah I was thinking that as well, as I already have a home NAS unit with plenty of storage I was just going to use this ssd as the boot drive and the wd black for items which I need on the rig. I haven't really looked into the benefits of m.2 yet but where I live they are damn more expensive

Why not get a 5820k for a workstation?

ROG X570-F Strix AMD R9 5900X | EK Elite 360 | EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 64gb | Samsung 980 PRO
ROG Strix XG349C Corsair 4000 | Bose C5 | ROG Swift PG279Q

Logitech G810 Orion Sennheiser HD 518 |  Logitech 502 Hero

The M9i from Cryorig should be cheaper.

Also, no need for Dominator Plats, or such a expensive mobo. I'd get different RAM, they all perform similar along as specs are similar. Mobo doesn't effect performance also.

After this you might be able to get a GTX 1080 or a bigger SSD.

i7-6700k  Cooling: Deepcool Captain 240EX White GPU: GTX 1080Ti EVGA FTW3 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 Case: Phanteks P400s TG Special Black/White PSU: EVGA 850w GQ Ram: 64GB (3200Mhz 16x4 Corsair Vengeance RGB) Storage 1x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 240GBSandisk SSDPlus, 480GB OCZ Trion 150, 1TB Crucial NVMe

Not really a fan of the X99 platform as a few of my buddy's have them and for what I want it wouldn't suit me

I will take that into consideration, would you recommend hyper X ram instead?

It really depends if you can get it cheaper. If you couldn't then it's not worth it. I think a 5820k would be the bottom-line for a true workstation.

Price isn't really a problem, even though it would be nice, I will look into the 5820k though thanks for the input

Price difference is like £30-£40 i think, nothing compared to what the total build cost so why not just go for the better product :)

Looks pretty nice if you ask me, what sort of results are you seeing?

Currently at 4.7ghz on CPU at 1.39v and both GPUs run at 2100mhz in SLI on most benchmarks, however in games they go down to 2076mhz.

Water temp = highest I saw was 44C and that was after 3 hours of RealBench with fully OC'ed system.

CPU: 72C with that OC mentioned above at 100% load in Aida64 and Realbench. In games i see no more than 60-62C

GPU: max temp on both cards was 51C at 100% load. In games its usually no more than 44C

Runs anything I throw at it at way over 100fps on Ultra @1440p. Makes good use of the 165hz on my PG279Q.

7800x3d - RTX 4090 FE - 64GB-6000C30 - 2x2TB 990 Pro - 4K 144HZ

Because that's to much just for a fancy heat sink.

Could get double the ram and paint it.

It's pocket change when the rig and peripherals going on it are over £5k lol
