Normalising Audio Volume System Wide

Back again.

I have my shiny little FiiO EK Olympus 2 running and I love it.

One small problem - application volume is all over the shop and there's no option to normalize volume within the audio properties, and obviously because it's just a DAC+AMP there's no software as there was with the Xonar U7.

Music through J River Media Center is fine. Youtube videos are loud as shit at the same volume, streamable links near silent. Game volume is far too quiet, also, but if I'm doing two things at once there is no way to balance it as there was previously. I get that I can use the options with MPC and J River, however if I have those open next to a game then balancing isn't really possible.

Basically I'm looking for a small app that will act as a compressor or normalizer (to replace what would normally be available in Windows sound options). I've had a look around and can't really find anything. Any ideas?

cant you just do it on an app to app basis? thats what i do basically

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Not really?

I don't fancy having to be tweaking it constantly when I swap from one app to another. I can set and forget in MPC but having to fiddle with it every time I want to watch a YouTube vid and then go to something in Netflix - which is again a different volume entirely - seems like a step backward.

If I don't have a compressor I need to tweak settings when I play a game compared to when I want to play a game while watching something in the background. It's going to mess up my workflow too much.

Use "Loudness Equalizaion" in the settings for your audio device. Use the Windows Audio Mixer to fine-tune the volume of different apps.

The usual loudness equalization option is not available with the FiiO connected via USB. Messing around with sliders in volume mixer constantly whenever I go from single to multi tasking is just going to be annoying.

I've found a free trial of a piece of software called Breakaway Audio Enhancer that does the job nicely for now. I'll see if its worth the $30 after the month is up.

Seriously, I don't know why people waste their time with shit like Fiio. You didn't install the ASIO driver (or any driver) did you? Really surprises me that these basic features aren't available in the effects tab.

Well I asked what people recommended under 150CHF and that was the only one that people liked. It got several recommendations.

EDIT:

Managed to find the ASIO drivers for it, they're on a forum post and stored in a dropbox.

Installed them, absolutely no change to the effects panel in playback devices properties, so I'm going to have to continue with the third party software.
