IMG_20160822_200806106.jpghey guys hope you can help out. I've tried just about everything to overclock this dell 230. i know its not meant for it. but its just sitting around collecting dust so might as well.

i tried clockgen with no luck even using the hex editor to replace some 1D thing with 1A i saw it worked on youtube for some newer dell but still no dice.

i don't really want to do any pin mods because you trade one thing for another. aka speeds of this or that

I assume that, by "overclock this Dell Vostro 230", you mean you want to overclock the CPU?

AFAIK Dell Vostro motherboards don't use a chipset that allow CPU overclocking.

but yes a cpu Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 GHz

The only thing you could do is BSEL mod the cpu, which involves connecting two pins on the cpu by drawing a connection with a conductive pen to force the cpu to run at a higher fsb speed, and will work even on oem boards.

You will have to look up the exact pins for that cpu, and whether or not the dell supports higher fsb chips, or see whether the chip can even run at a higher frequency due to the silicon lottery, but overclocking through the multiplier isn't possible.

Did you try SetFSB? Allowed me to OC a crap notebook I had... With luck (and A LOT of trial and error), you might be able to get some OC out of that board.

If you are just doing it cuz y nt?, then I have a go at using that machine for some distributed computing. Even if you don't need that processing power, there are many people all over the world that do.

Want to help researchers improve the lives on millions of people with just your computer? Then join World Community Grid distributed computing, and start helping the world to solve it's most difficult problems!
