Which Atari system is the best?

Under the 2600 banner...

Atari VCS CX2600 Sunnyvale Edition

Atari VCS CX2600

Atari 2600 Jr.

Then there are these models...

5200

7800

Lynx

Jaguar

This was my first one as a child

I should look into Atari emulators.

the 2600 was pretty good, I'm not too familiar with the models of it though. I always hear people say the 6 switch model is good though.

The 5200, 7800, Lynx and Jaguar are way different systems though, which are all not great. The 5200 is one of the biggest clunkiest consoles ever, with one of the worst controllers ever. The 7800 was alright, but doesn't have the library the 2600 has. The Lynx was a handheld that was too ambitious for its time and doesn't have a huge library (because the  GameBoy did so much better) and the Jaguar is just a bad console. The Jaguar was suppose to be first '64 bit console', but it barely looked better than the PS1 or even the Saturn. The controller is also hot garbage and the library is very small.

Buuuuut.. If you are looking to just play the old Atari game, you might as well get one of those consoles that packs like 100 different Atari games (that Atari themselves still release I believe) or just emulate them.

I say a 2600 but unless you're a big time retro gamer or have significant nostalgia you'll find most games even more simple than even flash games today. It really was more about the proof of concept back then than anything else no true "gaming" experience was really meaningfull until the NES and Megadrive later on. (Maybe on PC but only if you consider text adventure stuff "games" they were really more interactive novels though)

This is a great video

I might buy some of these old systems.

SNES is awesome too. By the way, with old system you should double check if you can actually connect them to your TV. Atari 2600 era consoles (and older) sometimes had stupid ways of connecting to your TV.. NES and on mostly used just Red and yellow cables (mono audio only) and N64 and on started using red, white and yellow.
