I'm wondering if the times to upgrade the AMD GPU or add a second for crossfire I don't like using Nvidia cards due to past experiences I've used a a fair few so please AMD recommendations only.

What games , resolutions and framerates do you play at ?

I play practically all the newest games, such as DOOM and so fourth, some older games also. I play either at 1080p supersampled to 4K since my "monitor" apparently supports it thanks to the drivers.

I'm debating on buying a second 390 because I can get one at a discount.

Vega could be months away.

390 is still a very capable card on its own.

If its enough for your needs now then don't upgrade first.

If you really really need the extra power then no one's stopping you from CF it.

If you decide to go with a second 390, be sure your motherboard, CPU, power supply etc, can support that.

Why would anyone suggest to get a graphics with the same or less power?

I have planned to get a 1050watt XFX or 1000watt Seasonic PSU next week so this would also be when I get the new GPU I don't like using a Bronze PSU with a X99 build, feels a little on the edge..

I personaly wouldn't crossfire a 390. Its just too old and limited for what is coming out and the money spent on a 390 just wont give you the results you want .  How much can you get a 390 for ?

If he wants to save money...?

He said he could get a second 390 for a discount. Was just offering my two cents and letting him know to check that he could even support two 390's if he goes for that.

I won't know you're talking to me unless you reply/quote me.

I can get the 390 for £149.99 so that's a saving of £69.99 (I've already got the strix one have a OCD for my builds always use the same parts.)

I've looked at getting two 480's for £339.99 which would be more expensive but I could sell the 390 or save it for a secondary build when I decide to upgrade the CPU and motherboard or take then Zen route.

PS your cpu and MOBO is overkill for gaming. And in terms of getting 480 .. i would wait. Dont upgrade to CF ... there is no point. But the most expensive/best single card you can afford then crossfire later. With these new GPU i would wait for amd to release their high end , or i would switch to the green team. Either way dont just buy 2 480

I don't want to use the green team I don't like their business model and have had run ins with them before over small disputes work wise.

I fully understand that . im simply saying that you dont have an AMD option that isnt really expensive or just dumb to do. None of the high end AMD stuff is out and at the high end right now the 1070 and 1080 are out right killing it. meaning that we may see something good come out of AMD now since their rx480 is actually quite good.  In fact right now for 1080 gaming the top shooter is the rx470. That thing with a slight overclock rapes 1080p gaming .. but then again you have a 390. I would wait for new cards unless you gan get a 390 for like 100 pounds. The new gen GPU is just such a leap from the old that its soo worth going new.

Suppose I'll hold off then a little longer just hate waiting for new stuff to come out. Vega is going to be a longer wait than Zen I get the feeling of it.

i would stick with what you have CPU wise if you sont do anything more CPU intensive than gaming. Or ZEN will just be money thrown away!
