Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme qx9300

Quick questions.  I was looking at the chipset that is compatible for the Intel Core 2 quad core QX9300 and Ive seen that memory type for this PM45 chipset is DDR2 667/800,DDR3 800,1066.  Could the CPU also be compatible with the two memory types as well or is the CPU just constrained to a particular memory type?

From what I've seen looking things up, there are some older prebuilt PCs that use both types with that processor.

Hope this helps. Skylake processors can take both DDR3 (DDR3L officially) and DDR4, too. You can only use one type at a time, though.

If you're talking about mixing DDR2 and DDR3, there's literally nothing good that can come of that.

Cant mix the two.  I just want to make sure that tHis quad core cpu is able to be plugged into a machine that is ddr3 memory type.

The Mobo is only going to support one. The two are keyed differently.

But can some CPU's support both like this Quad core Extreme?

As I said in my reply, there are PCs out there that with either type with that processor, so yes.

Thanks, I also see Compaq CQ62 mobo supports GM45 chipset which supports this Extreme QX9300.  I just wanted to socket it because i messed around bought it off ebay thinking it would be compatibale with my HP DV5-1235dx.  So I dont know if im goin to resale it.  doubt im willing to pay for an old Alienware M17 when i can just throw it in a CQ62 to just use as my penetrating test notebook.

Thanks.  Because i didnt want to keep looking for a DDR2 mobo when my chip can be socketed to a DDR3 mobo, albeit that it takes a mPGA478 cpu.
