What is dual channel memory?

Guest

My motherboard says it has dual channel ddr3 architecture. It takes up to four sticks of ddr3. Doesn't that mean that it could go up to Quad channel? I probably just don't understand what these terms mean.

More bandwidth. If your app has to transfer a lot of data in a quick period of time, extra bandwidth will increase performance.

It only supports single and dual channel configs, quad channel is not available on any LGA 1150 mobo.
