What Cipher is this?

Go to solution Solved by minibois,

The first part I just took through simple A1Z26 cipher translator (basically meaning the number 1 = A, 2 = B, etc. etc.) and than I went into a vignere translator (because he talked about that one in the comments). The passphrase was what I got from that first cipher and the message was the letters you posted here and I got "Nicetrybutwrongehqtrcqnfg" See what I bolded? He expected people to do this.. So I have to translate the second part too, let me try some more cipher

EDIT: running "Cfbdpcysnxmtwzfqsqqntfkef" through a vigenere cipher with the code word "UniverseUniverseUniverse" gives me "ISTILLGOTKEYSINMYDISPOSAL"

EDIT2: okay, I give up. If anyone wants to try, here are some resources (that I used):

http://gravityfalls.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_cryptograms

http://themysteryofgravityfalls.com/

http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/vigenere.php

http://www.xarg.org/tools/caesar-cipher/

The first line decoded from A1Z26 is PXZZWLARTEQCIMZMLAXWR.  Please do tag me once you decoded the thing, I'm curious how you did it.

So this guy on 9gag has been posting these ciphers and clues to solving them however this is one that i don't know what cipher this is used.

http://9gag.com/gag/aGDLNZ6?sc=anime-manga

The term " The universe is the answer to everything " came up with the number 42 which came from the hitchhikers guide for the galaxy.

so the numbers are in the cipher are these and scrambled letters are these

16-24-26-26-23-12-1-18-20-5-17-3-9-13-26-14-11-26-13-12-1-14-23-18

Cfbdpcysnxmtwzfqsqqntfkef

am not entirely sure what cipher is used for this. Anyone know?

thanks for helping didn't know about the universe part. I was thinking 42.

judging from his past posts it seems you should be able to get a game key from this, but I didn't get anything remotely close to a game key with any of the ciphers I used.

Wow, I like this guy.

I'll keep trying, but I guess I'll just put what I have thus far here:

I know this cipher has already been tried, but I translated the rest of it: "nicetrybutwrongdirectionq"

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

I'm still looking on the cipher but I think the first part is intentionally misleading. The answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42 or 37, however the quote on the image is a direct statement that  "The universe is the answer to everything" which is somewhat different and suggest the universe has something to do with the answer/plaintext.

I'm also doubt that battlegrounds is right, that seems to work off that N or whatever key is used is static, and is thats true you get

b-a-t-t-l-e-g-r-o-u-n-d-s-13-t-14-11-t-13-e-g-14-l-r

Which I cant see any solution for given the used/known letters.

I've tried many online translators and ciphers and got nothing reasonable, I thought for a minute that the numbers were perhaps some cipher of the passphrase or vis-verse, but I'm just spinning my wheels.

ayyyyy, kewl. What game did you get if you don't mind me asking? :) (assuming it was you who answered in that comment thread).

Also, I was just so much expecting the decrypted cipher to be a full game key that I gave up.

Oh.

Well if that's how the real thing's gonna be, that'll go quick.

Hell, "Universe" was the second key I tried, right after "TheUniverse." (Before I looked further in the thread, I like figuring things out.)

It just seemed like another joke response, given that there was already a "Nice Try" one.

"Do as I say, not as I do."
