Hey guys,

I use my PC most of the times for 3D work and rendering and sometimes to play games. So, a week ago i played Gta5, never had any problems with running gta on my PC. Until recently, it started lagging after 10 mins being in the game. So i closed the game, to see what the problem was. that was causing it to lag.

After a bit of researching i found out that not only Gta was lagging, but my whole PC was lagging. Dragging icons over the desktop, games, opening files.

So i looked around on some forums and found out that the lag was probable caused by my PSU. So i bought a new PSU and some other components.

I got the "old" parts out and replaced them with the new parts. started the PC up, deleted all the old drivers and installed all the new drivers.

Then i started doing some test to see if it fixed my problem.. but it was still lagging.

ran my virus scanner, ccleaner and malwarebytes. no virus or anything wrong found, and still lagging

Old specs: (when it started lagging)

Windows 10 / 64bit

AMD FX 4300

kingston 8GB

MSI 970 Gaming

sapphire Radeon r7 260x 2GB ddr5 OC edition

350Watt PSU

samsung ssd 850 evo 120gb

2tb HDD

New specs: (still lagging)

Windows 10 / 64bit

AMD FX 8350

Corsair hydro series h55

kingston hyperx savage 32GB

MSI 970 Gaming

Asus STRIX-gtx960-dc20c-4GB ddr5 OC edition

coolermaster g750m PSU

samsung ssd 850 evo 120gb

2tb HDD

Does anyone know what might be the problem here? why it still lagging?

If anyone at all can help, I would be very thankful.

Look in the task manager, see if there are any programs running that are using all the resources. I remember win 8.1 had a bug where a windows service superhost would use 100% disk all the time, making the system laggy af. Win10 didn't have that bug the last time i checked, but i haven't used win10 after the anniversary update. A clean install would be good seen as you changed hardware, get the drivers 100% clean.

I would start fresh, reformat. You installed a different CPU, could be causing problems.

Windows 10 64bit

version 1607

os build 14393.51

1. Try checking for an update.

2. I'm going to confess. Neither you're new build nor old build would run GTA 5 well in it's current state.

I have had a performance tank in GTA 5 as well recently (I used to have an average always above 60 but now in certain situations I can get as low as 40). As such I can only come to the conclusion that this is GTA 5's fault and not your PC. In this case you ask Rockstar Support for help and say that you are getting significantly worse performance.

it could be GTA5 fault, but i am experiencing the lag in gta but also in other games and even when i am just on the desktop doing nothing it lags.

I reformat my PC. But still no improvements in FPS. On my old rig i never had any problems with lag.

I came up with a few solutions to fix this problem, but i'm not 100% sure if that will work..

  1. PC components are not working properly with each other
  2. My 2TB HHD or Sata cable is broken and i need to replace it
  3. The new parts cost more but gave me less performance
  4. Games i play are not optimized for my GPU

Or if you think i might be something else please let me know :)

Did you reinstall the GPU drivers?

The performance boost between an R7 260X and a GTX 960 are not massive but the 960 pulls ahead 10/10 times.

So we can eliminate number 3.

Number 1 is very unlikely.

Check to see if your motherboard exact model supports AMD CPUs with 125w TDP!
