Different model cards, such as Asus' Direct CU or MSI's Twin Frozr makes a hige difference. There are too many variables.

First of all, what are yours and his average room temperatures?

If your room temp is 40C, then your card won't be able to go lower than 40C, but if your friend's room temp is 30C, then his card can go to 30C while yours is at 40C.

his is 22 C

mine is 28 C

right now Atm

Well there you go, the tf4 coolers are the best on the market in my opinion so ofcourse his is going to be cooler, the 660 also runs cooler but only by like 2c. Your card shouldn't be going up to 85c though unless your room temps are like 40c which is that case you need to solve other issues. Honestly set it to default settings and if it gets to 85c then just RMA it.

Fair enough, like @BlackOutCrisis mentioned you shouldnt be hitting 85c unless your room is sitting at 40c or higher so i would still look at replacing it, and i probably have one of the lowest rooms temps of most anyone on the forums at the moment however i oc my cards to hell and back and still dont get over 60, the gpu in my sig rig is a prime example

I have two 7870's in Crossfire, they are using the Twin Frozr coolers. My room is about 25C-28C on average, my GPU's do not exceed 65C while on load.

Have you thought about replacing the TIM(voiding warranty could ensure)? Just seems rather strange...

My room temp is typically around 20C. I would say that there is something wrong with either your fan profile or the heatsink isn't seated properly and needs thermal paste reapplied. Download Sapphire TRiXX or other software and set a custom fan curve and see if that makes any difference.

i have already changed my TIM  also i don't think it voids the warranty as they can not tell if its changed or not

You'll have to be more specific with the sapphire card, because there are 2 models of the same card under the same name.

http://elchapuzasinformatico.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Sapphire-Radeon-HD-7870-Dual-X-Edition-4.jpg

I have both cards running in crossfire right now, and the one in the second link is smaller, and the aluminum fin "density" is lower, so it gets hot faster than the old model (first pic), and its louder too.

you can see the difference in cooling in the pics I linked from google.
