Multi-tasking CPU

Go to solution Solved by Lurick,

I would go with the 6600K since it has new support for memory and other features that you most likely won't see with the AMD CPU. The AMD isn't bad on a budget but you can get better with the Intel CPU imo.

Hey every1 . So my friend asked me to make a build guide. He focuses more on Gaming , editing and multitasking . He has a total budget of 800 $ for his PC . I thought about the CPU and came up with Core I5 6600K and AMD FX 9590 as the options . Which one should I go with and why ???

Thanks in advance guys . ;)

As more games focus on single core performance, easily the i5 6600K. The 9590 is hot, needs a proper cooler (not 212 EVOs or any of the sort) and a decent 990FX motherboard that won't light it on fire.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

You are a troll, but I'll still answer the question.

AMD has their roll in the CPU market, mid to high end isn't it. The i5 6600k is the better choice.

Well thanks but Im a troll but not right now cuz PCs r way too important for me than trolling

the fx9590... is a disaster...

- it kicks out more heat than the sun

- it requires a mobo with more VRMs than the average nuclear power plant

- single thread performance is still lacking, even at it's "stock" 4.7GHz

- DDR3 (DDR4 is actually getting cheaper towards the range of 8GB dimms which are becoming a serious consideration)

- PCIe 2.0 (again not really a problem, but a sign of an aging platform...)

- at some point... power cost actually does come into play and the FX9590 is pretty much the clear loser in terms of energy efficiency :P

I mean if he's asking you to vett the parts, more than likely he does not need an Unlocked Processor.

Not implying you yourself are incompetent but rather your friend is, so don't enable that kind of risk (If he tries messing with the Clock).

Definitely go 6th gen i5, non-k, and he can bank on getting a 980ti, which perform well in editing, probably not the best for 4k encoding and what not, but it works well enough imo.

Here's a build you can tweak to your liking, more than likely you can find much better prices on the 980ti, and you can also swing for an h chipset given the i5 included isn't overclockable(I just clicked add on the first gaming motherboard I saw). http://pcpartpicker.com/list/K2pQD8

If your friend can stand to save $150 more thePSU, a boot ssd, and scratch disk can be added.

Or even though I am a team green fan, you could swing for a price effective AMD card, though I am not sure which one would be suited best for editing

I don't really have much building experience with AMD anything given I prefer Intel and NVIDIA and encourage them with those who do approach me for building systems for them. (Only because I've personally had a negative experience with AMD hardware)

A 960 is great for gaming, but editing, I'm not so sure, haven't really used a 960 personally for editing purposes or vetted one for editing for a client. Have you looked up editing performance scores for it? I personally won't reccomend a product based on paper stats from the manufacturer, so as far as my opinion goes with you (which I Imagine isn't very far cause I'm stranger), find benchmarks and performance reviews from someone with a legit reputation like the Linus crew or Paul's hardware. But I do maintain that if your friend needs someone else to vett parts for him that he has no business with an unlocked CPU
