Help, external gpu doenst have enough power?

Ok so i just finished building my first gaming pc. and i was scared of a lot of stuff like me accidentally benting a cpu pin etc. After i finished my pc, it woudlnt turn on. and the white led on VGA was on.. i was like hold on.. so i checked and it seems the VGA flashlight meant that there is a problem with detecting my GPU (this is with external GPU connected). so i took the external GPU off and just used my integrated graphics and boom i got to BIOS...

Then i tried putting the external GPU back into the pc and again VGA light on... i looked at the GPU fans and they seem to start for half a second and... shut off. so my guess is that the external GPU does not have enough power.

My gpu has a 8 pin connector and a 6 pin connector. my PSU came with a VGA cable that has just that ( i also tried two separate cables for the 8 pin and the 6 pin and still wouldnt work (thats two vga slots on the psu itself))

I still have two last things to do but im exhausted right now so i will ask to see if anyone knows what i should do in this situations because ill panic when i run out of ideas.

my next idea is to simply switch PCI-E slots to see if with another one it will work. After that i will try to first install a windows, then install the nvidia drivers without the card and then put the card in. and thats my last idea x,x

So if anyone knows what i should do please advice me because im running out of ideas.

SPECS

MSI KRAIT GAMING 3x Lg1151 MOBO
Intel core I5-6600k (dont think it matters in this case but i have been running with its integrated graphics)

MSI Geforce GTX 1080 ARMOR OC edition (it has one 8 pin and one 6 pin connector)

Phanteks enthoo pro case (white)

EVGA 750 GQ power supply

thanks in advance

OH YEA i forgot. i pre tested the graphics card on a friends computer so i know it works. in his case i first put in the card and then installed the drivers but the pc would still work without them.. just adds to why im so scared of this case.

also i wonder what would have happened if i went with a CPU that doenst have integrated graphics and had to run nvidia from the beggining, would i have been screwed?

Not that VGA type of cables i mean the power cables that have labeled VGA for graphics cards...

you should plug you 6pin and 8pin on you gpu. And you need connect you display on you gpu port, as long as you install the gpu. The mobo display port will be disabled

Thats the problem, i did and the mobo has a problem recognizing the external GPU

so you connect you display to the gpu port? If you success go to bios setting by connecting you display to you gpu port you gpu is fine.

PS:the gpu inside you rig is not call as a external gpu

no, thats the problem, i cant get to BIOS using the Nvidia GPU, my mobo has the gpu led on (meaning it has a problem recognizing it). i can only get to the bios with the integrated gpu that my intel chip has.

Is your BIOS up to date?

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

do you try different pcie slot and make sure the display have the right input. By the way if you gpu is short for power it will still worked ,it will just lower the performance.

i WIll try other PCI E slots next, i do not know if my bios is up to date (doubt it too) but is the fact the mobo not recognizing the nvidia gpu related to that?

I doubt the bios update will do any thing to the GPU, I think the BIOS update only work to the CPU

Im done trying the other PCI E slots... nothing. all of them is the same thing but i have noticed something..

the mobo has to realize that a gpu is there so the led actually goes up ( if the mobo actually didnt know the gpu is there then it would just go directly to integrated gpu like it does without the nvidia gpu in) so the problem is in the mobo accessing the card or the card not having enough power (which it was said it shudnt make it stop working only lower its performance) and i have a freaking 750w psu i shudnt have power problems. x.x im gonna panic soon.

My logic for my answer is that the stock motherboard BIOS when released wouldn't recognize the much newer GTX 10 line.

also, its ok even if it wont even reach the bios? like if the bios wont detect a gpu it wont run right?

Sorry for the late reply.

If the BIOS doesn't detect a GPU I think it'll run off your integrated graphics. So if you wanna update your bios just do it from your integrated graphics.

Ahhh, I haven't even read the documentation properly yet.

Officially, the mobo DOES NOT SUPPORT YOUR GRAPHICS CARD.

Sorry for leading you on a wild goose chase and best of luck,
