laptop for college

Ok so I need a laptop for college I have narrowed my options down to 3.

Oh my budget is $2500 and I am going to be an engineer and I will also be a freshman.

Dell xps 15 4k touchscreen i7 maxed out (its a dell, the camera sucks, and the graphics card is a 960 which I would rather have a 970)

razer blade 2016 (apparently the screen is not as sharp as other displays)

macbook pro 15 inch maxed out (the graphics card sucks)

WHAT?!?! A MACKBOOK?!?!

Yes I like the os and I have a balls to the walls gaming desktop that can offset the admittedly terrible performance of the m370x.

But here's the kicker neither the dell or the razer will be in stock until after I leave. Oh and apple Is supposedly releasing a new macbook this September AND I DO NOT WANT TO BE A GENERATION BEHIND ON AN ALREADY PERFORMANCE LACKING DEVICE.

I already have a 2008 macbook pro that is slow but I can still type on and browse the internet and such except I would need to buy a charging cable because my mother accidentally broke the other one.

So what do I do?

I could buy any of the three laptops and wait until a few weeks after college starts to get the thing (other than the current gen mac which is ironically in stock).

Or I could buy the $80 charging cable and then make it for a few months until the macbook comes out.

I like the macbook over the other two.

So what the hell should I do?

I am also open to laptop suggestions it just cant look like a gaming pc and has to have at least a 960.

Most of what you do in first-year engineering will be in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.  You do not need a powerful laptop.  What you do need is a reliable laptop.  A gaming laptop will suck away your time and cause you to flunk out.  (besides, you already have a gaming desktop, so why would you want to spend $$$ on a laptop GPU which will just suck your battery life away, and will most likely be pathetic in performance in comparison to the desktop!)?

My suggestion is business-class gear, no GPU, a machine you can get stuff done on.  Get yourself a pair of full-sized LCDs.  And 3 or 4 Kensington locks for your LCDs and your laptop to lock everything down to a desk or something so it doesn't get stolen in the dorms (unless you're living at home).

Latitude E7470 on Dell Outlet is what I'd be looking at, a 1080p SSD model.
