Hey everyone,

My wifi connection fades considerably in the basement of my 1,100 sq ft home.  It was recommended to me to get an access point, since I do have the means of running a long ethernet cable from my family room to my basement.  However, I would prefer to hardwire a couple of devices in my basement whether than connect them to wifi.  That being said, I'm looking to get a router (so I can make use of the ethernet ports) that has an access point mode (or easy way of configuring to be an access point).

Any specific recommendations?  The original modem is an Xfinity Arris TG862, if that helps.  I'd run an ethernet cable from that to whatever router I get for the basement.

For budget, preferably under $200.

Any input would be highly appreciated and I apologize if I worded any of this like a total novice (which I admittedly am, when it comes to networking).

Thanks so much!

I would get a Ubiquiti UniFi AP and an unmanaged switch for the amount of port you need, netgear would be a good one to look at.

Thanks so much for the suggestion!  Do you think this be overkill for my small home, or appropriate for my needs?  (Sorry for the questions)

Thanks again!

Yeah like @mcraftax said, I would get a Ubiquity UniFi AP but i would get the Pro model because they are significantly faster (300 mb/s (non-pro) compared to the 1700+ mb/s of the Pro model) as well as you get a 2.4/5Ghz line on the Pro

This is awesome - thanks so much!  So the setup would be as follows?

Xfinity router plugged into Ubiquity UniFi AP plugged into unmanaged switch (wireless devices connect to UniFi, wired connect into unmanaged switch ports).

Did I get that right?

If you want to spend the money go with the Pro, it is definitely better.

@TubsAlwaysWins Got the speed lightly wrong and channel support.

I forgot to mention the pro models have a passthrough port on them so you could go router>Access Point>switch
