3D Design and Gaming Build

Hey everybody!

I live in the UK and currently have:
AMD FX-8320 3.5 GHz 8-Core Processor

Dark Rock Pro 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+

Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
Running one 1440p monitor and one 1080p monitor

I'm looking to build another computer with the most cores for the buck with sufficient memory as I am a Design student and am currently being frustrated by long render times etc.
Budget wise i'd like to spend a max of £1000 and cannibalizing the current build as least as possible, bar the Graphics card which i'd like to use in the new build, as I cannot justify purchasing a new one quite yet so perhaps using my old PSU and purchasing a smaller one to replace it.

Many Thanks In Advance

Matthew

Id get a 6800k and a new mobo + ram.

You could also get a second render box and continue to use your current desktop for everything but rendering. Like this system. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-T7600-E5-2687w-8-Core-3-1Ghz-32GB-1TB-HD-DVDRW-Quadro-5000-Video-/222210557138?hash=item33bcc804d2:g:j4IAAOSwLmVXD8xX

Much faster than any system you could build for rendering at that price.

I could be wrong, but I believe rendering is usually a gpu task. Check your rendering application settings and see if there is a hardware rendering setting.

Wrong currency, would be better to go with a 6800K and a different PSU.

Thanks that's what I kind of had in mind and the "Render Machine" I'd thought about but never looked into.

If I did Just get a new CPU, MB and RAM keeping all my old stuff, what would be my best options then?

Thanks the 6800K is something I'd thought of but wasn't sure.

What if It was just the CPU, MB and RAM I replaced?

If you just get new cpu ram and mb you best option is something like this.

cpu i7 6800k about 400 usd

mothboard lowend x99 around 250 usb

ram 32gb ddr4 about 200 usd

So spend the extra cash on more ram :)
What would be the next sensible step up from the 6800K?

probably a 6900K or start looking into lowend dual 8 core xeons. Problem with dual xeons that the boards are 400+

Have you considered GPU rendering in C4D? You would need a plugin of course (Octane, FurryBall RT, etc).

You have a 980 ti, a beast card for GPU rendering and it is so much faster. I used to render with Mental Ray but it is a slowwww CPU renderer. The C4D renderer is nice but I understand wanting lower render times. If you want a faster CPU renderer, you should check out KeyShot for C4D. It's the fastest CPU renderer that I know of and it is an industry standard for 3D designers.

This Octane demo is taught by my colleague if you want to take a looky.

These are just some alternatives if you don't want to have to buy new system. You have a decent workstation from the looks of it ;)

That will be good. Get a new PSU. I'd get an EVGA G2.

Damn okay a bit of a price hike
Thank you so much!

You could go Xeon E5 if you want more cores but want to stay in the 1000 GBP budget. There aren't many options though.
