Figured things out....sorta....

So...I figured out my computer problem....yay...?  My motherboard is fried....everything else is fine.  So my question now is...my i7-4790k is fine.  Should I just replace the board....which I could get today on the way home and game tonight for about $100...or should I bide my time and wait for the extra $$ and upgrade to DDR4, an i7 6700k, and the happy (as yet undecided) motherboard to go with the new stuff.

The motherboard (now dead) was the lone hold out from the last build....so I knew that it should be replaced though I was not expecting the dramatic exit.

Honestly....as much as the $$ aspect and the longing to game aspect....my logic is a bit muddled so I need outside opinions.

I am trying to be a good geek and think future proof and all that blah blah blah and not just think "want to game this weekend damnit!"

Is there an upgrade from the 4790k that would make sense or is it fine for a year plus....?

It's more than fine for much more than a year. 6700k is not good enough of an upgrade. A 6800K would be an upgrade, but a costly one. If you game only, stick with the 4790K.
