I am looking at NVRs and have come across Amcrest and Hikvision.

Which one is better?

I want to have one ethernet cable to my switch and the IP cameras to go to the swtich via ethernet.

 

Amcrest:

NVR

Camera

 

Hikvision: (more expensive)

mostly sold from some new company on Amazon.ca called "Gowell Security", dont know if they are reputable

Desktop: i5 4670k, Z97-K, 16GB, MSI GTX 770, Evga 850G2, TT T31

Freenas Server: i3 4170, X10-SLL-F-O, Crucial 16GB UDIMM, 4x4TB WD Red, Evga 550GS, Fractal 804

Peripheral: K60, HyperX Cloud

Mobile: Nexus 6P

Id probably get a poe camera and switch so you don't need to have a power cable running to the cameras

 

Get a camera like this

I don't want PoE, trying to keep the setup simple.
