yes, generally found in the router's QoS (quality of Service) settings.

Find your default gateway, and then login to the access page. Login details are normally on the bottom of your router on a little sticker.

To get your default gateway, do the following:

  • Win + R
  • Type CMD then press OK
  • In the black box that appears, type in ipconfig | findstr /i "default gateway" and press enter
  • Browse to the IP address shown after Default Gateway . . . . . . . :

Follow the instructions found in your appliance's owners manual. Not all routers are the same, and some do not have the feature at all.

If you can't figure out the router method, there's always an application called NetLimiter you can download. Used it to limit upload speed when uploading to YouTube so it didn't throttle my games and stuff.

my brother

you are not in the position to make that decision ;)

QoS should take care of that tho, but seemingly in the states that's still a very new concept...

But isn't that a local machine manager? Meaning he'd have to have it installed on his brother's computer to limit his brother's connections... that doesn't sound like a very good solution to me.

Yeah don't think that it supports it! You'll have to get another router or get a wireless access point and disable wireless on the router, then limit speed on the new wireless access point

Do the following:

  • Plug the new access point into your router, and set it up to act as a wireless access point
  • In the settings setup the QoS (video here):
  • Plug your computer directly into your router
  • Login to the admin page and disable the wireless on it
  • Reconnect your devices to the new wireless access point

Yes. By turning the WiFi off on the router, and only enabling it on this it means that any wireless devices have to connect to it in order to get internet, hence allowing you to limit bandwidth
