i'm building my first computer and i tried hooking up the monitor it's having problems. the monitor works perfectly fine but the second i connect it to the computer the monitor goes black. could it be the graphics card? not being compatible with the mother board? or something else? my motherboard is a msi 970 gaming. the graphics card is AMD® Radeon HD7560D or a AMD® Radeon HD7660D.

are you plugging it into the motherboard or the gpu

It has to be in the card. The motherboard nor the supported CPUs have any integrated graphics, and therefore no video out.

Both "Graphics cards" are part of an APU, not a separate GPU, this means the CPU package is CPU+GPU.

No. No AM3/AM3+ CPU has integrated graphics, and the motherboard has no video outs.

This is the motherboard:

Both of you are right: the 970 Gaming is an AM3+ motherboard without onboard graphics and no AM3+ CPU has an iGPU, and  Radeon HD7560D and Radeon HD7660D are iGPUs from AMD's FM2/FM2+ APUs. Hence, I'm guessing either the motherboard or the GPU are wrong in OP's description.

Yes, but that means the user is mistaken somehow. The socket used on the motherboard is not used on any APUs.
