Please help me to decide

So I am currently deciding between those two laptops:

  • Acer V 15 Nitro (i7-6500U, additional 500GB HDD, IPS, little bit better battery) 1097€
  • Acer V 15 (i7-6700HQ, no HDD, TN-Panel) 850€

Is it worth 250€ to have additional 500GB HDD and IPS or should i go for the no Nitro version??

I use it mainly for school (programming, simulating and some 3D moddeling) and some gaming on LAN partys etc.

pleas fast answers I want to buy it fast :)

Thank

Akadis

I don't know much about v15s.. But clearly the Nitro has a worse CPU and possibly a worse GPU, I believe the non-nitro is equipped with a GTX 960M? The i7 6700HQ outperforms the i7 6500U by so much, if the GPU is not downgraded then it might experience a bottleneck.

I do believe, the Non-Nitro one has 256GB of NVMe PCIe Storage? Yeah.. That's merely enough. However if you have an external Thunderbolt HDD then bam, your solution.

However the V15 is known for crap battery life, Having the Nitro MIGHT improve it, but again, if you don't mind having to charge it 20 minutes earlier, I would say save your 250 Pounds.

  • CPU Cooler:         Corsair H100i v2 Liquid Cooler - Replaced fans with SP120 fans
  • RAM:                Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 8GB (2*4GB) @ 2568MHz

both have the 950M 2GB version in it

i have a spare 250GB SSD around and some 1tb external drives so that is not a problem ^^

I found that the v 15 has about 5-6h while surfing in the internet

Don't. It overheats. Look at Notebookcheck or the Notebookreview forums. It runs at 95-99*C on the CPU under load. It's basically not usable for anything beyond minesweeper. Ask @Dackzy how many times he's had to replace fried boards on those... The heat can also damage the battery causing major issues.

They should sell them with a grill so you can at least make dinner while watching the world burn :D

well I have made a lot of holes in one as a mod, just to help with temps, the bottom ended up looking like a big mesh. It helped a little... So I guess that you could make food on that..

The Y700 is a much better option. Unlike the Nitro (which has 2 extremely small aluminium heatsinks) the Y700 comes with a large copper heatsink and yields vastly superior thermal performance. The Asus G552VW is also a solid option. I strongly encourage you to cancel the order as Acer are notoriously bad with support.

Ok i wont go for the Nitro btw and at the reviews i read the temps only went to about 60°C?

Just read that the Y700 has a bad battery and i don't really need that much gpu power i'll only use it on lans and if i have spare time in school

The 60*C is for external temperature of the keyboard area. Internally it goes to 95*C and overheats (throttles).

Y700 has a 60Wh battery. That's larger than the V Nitro's 51-52Wh one.

i read many reviews now and I won't get enough battery with the y700 also i don't want such a gaming laptop again.

I will use it for work and school and it's no problem if the gpu isn't that good (LoL, CS:GO, LAN-Games,...).

Its nice that it has got an IPS panel but it has no use if I always need to keep my charger with me.

Couldn't find the asus laptop however ^^

I hope you can find something for me kinda getting lost in this huge laptop market

I wish you could build them like a tower pc.

The Y700 has better battery life tho. I've tried both. The Y700 gets 5 hours, V Nitro about 4 hours.
