Old LGA 775 PC what can I do with it?

Yes I know, the LGA 775 platform is dated and not worth investing in but I'm using on my aunt's PC while away from home for the next 2 months and I still want to game (mostly indies, Overwatch and maybe non maxed GTA V) without investing too much in extra hardware (especially because my home rig runs on an i5 4670K and a GTX 960 and I don't want to upgrade anytime soon).

 

The PC has a Q6600 G0, 4gb of DDR2 a 350W 80+ PSU and no dedicated GPU, what can I do with that without spending more than 200$? Monitor resolution is 1368x768 and newly bought hardware might be transferred to a different system later

 

EDIT: I have no way to bring my 960 over because it's about 8000km away... And I'd like to avoid buying a new PSU, beefier GPU are going to be bottlenecked anyway I think. I also plan to o/c the good old Q6600 to at least 3GHz although I don't think it's gonna get higher on a G31 mobo

a gtx 750 ti, which costs next to nothing nowadays can enable you to play somewhat modern titles on "playable" framerates (30/40fps).

GTA V will run at ~40fps with a gtx 950 and a q8200 on high settings, I tried that myself.

Just get a GPU that can handle the games you want to throw at it. My only concern would maybe be the PSU but check and see if that unit has enough juice to power something like an R7 370 or GTX 950. They should be more than powerful enough to handle what you want to play and with the new lineup out they should be at a decent price now as well.

The Q6600 was a pretty beast CPU in its days. You might be able to overclock it quite a bit if it has a decent cooler too. Could you bring your 960 over and install it in your aunt's computer while you're away?

You can put in a cheap GPU and play stuff on low settings, although you'll struggle with GTA since it uses a lot of CPU. Maybe a 950?  Or a R7 370. Both around $140.

 

EDIT: You can also OC your CPU if you spend like $30 on a Hyper 212 EVO or something that should help a decent amount.

Yeah I was considering the 750 Ti especially because I can find it for about 90$ but I wonder if waiting for the RX 470/460 might be worth it

I would say one of those two instead, since the 460 will probably have 950 performance at around 100 dollars and the 470 when overclocked should come pretty close to a stock 480 for around 160 dollars or so.

 

The 470 comes out in 2 days and the 460 in 6, so you might as well wait and see anyways!

If it is only for two months, just get the 750 Ti

Get a RX 460 for the Q6600, and if the board can. See if you can increase the RAM to 8GBs!
