What I've learned from my first build

So what i have learned and wont do in the future

 - buying at release (gpu)

that 770 was to expensive now that i look back at it even though nvidia has some nice features, going back in time i would probably have bought either a 760 or a 7950 bc i only      play cs:go (which i didnt expect when i first thought off pc gaming)

 - Watercoolng and overclocking

In the end i didnt even bother overclocking i would have been better off with a 4770

 - not getting a ssd

T.T I dont think ill have to explain this one

What have you learned?

Specs cpu:  i7 4770k  mobo: z87-pro RAM: Corsair vengeance 8GB GPU: EVGA GTX 770 HDD: WD blue 1TB psu: TX750M case: 550D cooling: H100i monitor: Dell U2410/Samsung sa350

My first build taught me that I would have been better off buying a ATI Rage 128 rather then a 3Dfx Voodoo 3 3500.

And if it is your first build, I would say overclock that sucker. You will learn a lot about the computer (and computers in general) by doing so.

Probably wouldn't even needed a 4770 tbh.

I learned: Raptor Drives are dumb marketing. 10K RPM 1TB HDD didn't do anything for my games tbh. Should have gotten a bigger SSD than 120GB (or 256GB in terms of my Macbook). I probably could have waited and bought a 780 instead of a 680 about 2 months before they came out.

I really didn't need my G19s (I like it, but I don't use the screen often except to monitor temperatures and speed).

Oh, and I regret buying a 21:9 monitor.

Desktop: Intel i5-3570K (stock) | Asus Sabertooth Z77 | G.Skill RipJaw 16GB 1600MHz | Samsung 840 120GB | EVGA GTX 680 SC+ 2GB | Fractal Design R4 | Windows 8 Pro (soon to have dual boot Mac OS X)

Retina Macbook Pro : Intel i7-3840QM | 16GB 1600 MHz | 256GB SSD | Nvidia GT 650M 1GB | Mac OS X 10.8.5

would have really thought out what form factor i really NEEDED and would have done ITX in the first place instead of struggling  to sell off my ATX board and case later. Turns out i never got a soundcard and therefore only used 1 pci slot

I learned not to shit your pants in fear when putting the cpu in the socket. It's really not that scary.
