I'm preparing for a new build and I searched for the anti-static guide but could not find answer for my question. I'm trying to find out how to ground urself by using PSU/Case and/or anti-static wrist-band.

1) When people say "touch PSU" every few minutes. So the PSU has to be turned OFF but connected via power cable to the power socket, is that right? Or has to be connected to power strip which is connected to power socket in the wall?

2) Permanent grounding: Same as above but ant-static wrist band clipped to metal part of turned off but connected to power socket PSU? Can this be connected to any metal part (painted?). As I seen people clipping the band to non-painted metal scrub.

3) How does touching the case works in the same way as PSU? Or the PSU has to be in the case to ground urself by touching it?

4) Whats the point of using the anti-static wrist banned attached to the case?

I have a wooden floor, no carpet. Should I bother with ant-static wrist band? Which option should I choose to be safe and sound? Can someone help please :)

no need, just touch the case a few times and you'll be fine. touched my parts dozens of times without any protections but touching the case and nothing happened so far.

I have wooden floor .. i have built and upgrade modded without having anti static wrist band .... just touch something big and metal such as your PC Case/Table just not power connectors before building it and should be fine.

So honestly, dont worry about it. Yes you can use a anti static band, I have one attach it to a ground source and then youll be fin, but also you can touch the PSU, but you should be fine either way.

I don't get all that drama with anti static preperations.

When was the last time, someone killed component with static electricity from his body?

Thanks, well I dont get all the drama too. To be honest, previously when I was upgrading my PCs i didnt take any ant-static pre-caution and had no issues. But now I'm planning to do my 1st full build from scratch and its quite expensive so I just want to make sure I won't burn my money by accident ;)

You really don't need much, if any, anti-static protection.

If you are on a solid floor (Not carpet or lino) then you should be fine. The power supply plugged into any power socket will be earthed if you want to be careful. If you're not wearing a fully knitted jumper or on carpet I can't see any problems.

This used to be a problem more than 10 years ago but modern PC parts are protected enough.

I know it is standard in the UK, but not all countries use grounded sockets as standard. So it depends on where he is from ;) (This is a technicality bordering on nitpicking)

To RGB, or not to RGB? That is the question.

That is true, but I thought anywhere a computer would be plugged in would be. I'm probably wrong, thanks for the detail. :)

While plug itself will most likely be designed to be grounded. Suprisingly many sockets (type C) are not grounded (If you are interested you can read about it here).
