When should I replace my PC?

david31160

So I'm pretty much done with my build after about a year of buying computer parts and going bankrupt and stuff. The only thing left to do is to install my custom rgb led controller and get some cable extensions so my cable management looks pristine. Now I'm thinking about my next PC build. I'm thinking about replacing my current PC in 2-3 years. What do you guys think? Will my PC last longer than that?

Swap out that PSU ASAP

Swap out the GPU in 2-3 Years

Swap out the HDD and SSD in 4 years (my personal rule)

Swap Out the CPU/MOBO/RAM/PSU in 5-6 Years

Considering the pace of tech, a i7 2600k from 2011 still kicks ass

this is my recommendation and is what i follow

Rigs I've Built

The Striker i5 4590 @ 3.7 ||  MSI GTX 980 Armor X2 || Corsair RMX 750 || Team Elite Plus 8 GB || Define S || MSI Z97S SLI Krait

The Office PC i3 4160 @ 3.6 || Intel 4600 || EVGA 500B || G.Skill 8 GB || Cooler Master N200 || ASRock H97M Pro4

The Friend PC G3258 @ 4.3 || Sapphire R9 280X Tri-X || EVGA 600B || 8 GB Dell Ram || Cooler Master N200 || ASRock H97M- iTX/ac

The Mom Gaming PC A10-7890K @ 4.4 || iGPU + ASUS R7 250 ||  8 GB Klevv DDR3-2800 Mhz

Solid for a typical gamer, if that's what you're going for. Should be able to do 1080p and even 1440p at reasonable settings. Z97 is good platform despite being a little old, and unless you plan on spanning three 4K displays with tons of VR, I'd say you're good for 2-3 years. Heck, I'd stretch that to 5 years simply because I know gamers who are still on 2600k CPUs and Keplar architectures from Nvidia. It all depends on what you want to do with it and if your needs will change to something that'll require better hardware.

CPU should last another 5 years and GPU about 3 years. If you need another upgrade I'd go with either a 512GB M.2 SSD or 1TB SATA III SSD and a larger 4TB hard drive.

Yeah...

Might replace the power supply because the reviews say it is unstable under heavy load and that might be why I can never run Firestrike.

User STRMfrmXMN has a PSU whitelist of reliable PSU's (obviously) that you can refer to when choosing one.

you have well over 1K$ hooked to that piece of trash man...replace ASAP.

a good 550W PSU is plenty for your machine....and will run you around 80$ or something...this for example is a top notch PSU that would come with 7 years warranty and complete piece of mind:

ik everyone is saying to get a good better psu, but this one AT LEAST is better than the cx series from corsair, better reviews and higher amps on 12 volt rail. Im not saying to keep it for a long time, just sayin it aint as bad as everyone making it be. peeps on amazon seem to have no probs with sli/cf. However, since your seeing firestrike is crashing at heavy load you might have got a faulty one out of the box, s beware if you plan to sli.

note the oem for this company is sirtec which rosewill psu are made from, so their decent

Again. Check this out before you buy any PSU.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
