Hi LinusTechTips forums,

I really want to format my SSD. My whole PC is running slow because I downloaded a wrong torrent and got a virus. My CPU is often running at 50%+ while idle and it's annoying. I also have had some weird bugs while booting up for a while and it is annoying. I want to delete everything on the SSD including windows and do a fresh install. Is it possible to do this if I have no other PC to format the SSD from? I want to use my computer to delelte everything. Simply reinstalling windows won't help because I am rather sure the virus is hidden in Windows files and shit.

Basically my question is, how to format my SSD without using a different PC.

Thanks alot,

Edit: I know I can reinstall everything with a Windows setting but will that remove the stuff hidden in Windows itself?

You can do a complete format thru command prompt.

I believe its "format c:" or something like that, but don't take my word for it.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

If you boot to Windows installation media, you'll have the option to wipe the drive completely and delete all partitions before reinstalling. That will kill everything and give you a fresh install.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

yes, you can.

what you can do is create a windows install usb before you format, and then use that to boot. Onve youre booted into the usb select repair, then advanced, then open cmd prompt. From there you can reformat the ssd, then reboot and instal windows.
