Headset Microphone picking up audio from headset

Go to solution Solved by Vassili62,

So the TL:DR is: Connected mic into the onboard sound card, set output to my awesome HT Omega Claro. This allowed for noise cancellation and output to the speakers I wanted. As for the drivers, the official ones are better than the third party Xonar ones I tested.

Heya guys,

I have a Steel Series 5Hv2, and it seems to pickup any audio I play with the microphone. I have made sure to disable Stero-Mix in the sounds settings. I dont know what could be causing this. Is it just that the headset's microphone is too sensitive or that the headset doesn't have properly closed speakers? I am totally at a loss here and googling it seemed to give me no answer.

If it is my headset is there one that someone can recommend that is similar in form factor to the 5Hv2? I cant wear band headsets, due to their fitting crushing my ears.

Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem, it is with a different headset and I have replaced them twice with different ones, I have came to the conclusion it is the soundcard at fault in my scenario so it may be for you, I use onboard audio (I am aware of the sin) so I will most likely get a soundcard to try and solve this problem. In your case try and install newer drivers perhaps? Did this happen all of a sudden, like has this problem always been there or is it a new problem?

Case: Corsair 460X RGB bby, CPU: I5 8600K, Motherboard: MSI B360M PRO-VDH, RAM: 8GB Hyper X 2400MHz , Graphics Card: GTX1060 6GB, PSU: Corsair RM750x,

I guarantee it's not the microphone picking up audio from the drivers. Bad isolation between the circuits somewhere in the headset is a very common issue regardless of the brand or price bracket, however.

Have you tried the headset(s) on other computers?

I'll try the headset on another computer. I find it odd that this headset did this because a cheap $20 headset from staples doesn't.

Most likely an issue with the headphones then if it is only doing it with them then I doubt its your sound card.

Trust me when I say it happens to $200 headsets as well. There's just so many spots in a headset's circuit for crosstalk to happen between your audio and the mic.

Some more info. I am able to use my onboard sound card and it does not do this. I find this odd as my sound card is just some random realtek one with noise suppression and echo cancellation. Sadly my other UBER HTO-Mega Claro doesn't have either. Anyone know of a good sound card that has Optical Toslink input and outputs, and supports 5.1? I was looking at the Creative Sound Blaster Z, though it has less features than my current card.

It's because sound cards are junk, just use your on-board if you can.

Okay, can someone recommend a sound card that has the Echo Cancellation feature and with Toslink input and output? I have a PCI-E slot if needed for the card, in case it isn't PCI.

I would use my onboard sound card if it didn't suck, sound terrible, not have Toslink input and output, and supported DTS. All of which it doesn't.

What I've been trying to ask is: surely a new headset would be cheaper than a new soundcard with all those features?

Sadly they are the same price. I have managed to get a work around for this. I installed some third party drivers for some xonar cards. After I did this I was able to use both my realtek and the HT Omega at once. I use the HT Omega for output and the Realtek for microphone input.
